[MSFS2024] R66 Governor Off by Default

The governor is off by default in the Carenado/Asobo R66. There isn’t switch in the cockpit, and it must be bound to a button to turn it on.

In the real helicopter, there isn’t a switch and it is on all of the time by default, unless there is a failure and you pull the fuse. For the sim, the governor should be on by default.

• had to bind a control to turn on the gov so that the rotor speed will behave properly

• I also have issues binding controls to the throttle. Which ever control I bind to the throttle, it only ever changes the collective, regardless if the governor is on/off. Is that the correct behavior?

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

What’s the exact keybinding to use as a workaround?

I have ‘governor on’ and ‘governor off’ set to buttons. That way I definitely know what state I’m setting it to. ‘Toggle governor’ should also work, but you don’t know what state you are setting it to.

• Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• The problem involves that, if you follow the checklist for a cold start, you finish with a badly-configure aircraft, whre you have to handle the throttle manually.
Binding some controls to switch on the governor is not a realistic solution, cause the real R66 does not have that control, the governor should be on by default.

• Governer on buttons also didn’t help. Please tell which exact keybind to use?

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

The switch is on the end of the collective, next to the engine start button on the R66.

Issues is that the governor defaults to “run at flight speed at all times” and overrides the throttle position.

In real life, if the governor is on, but the torottle is low, you can roll up and it will take over on its own. The in game governor controls it no matter what.

This causes issues in flight where the computer control needs 88% but the real throttle is at 100%, and if the control has any noise, or is bumped, it goes from 880 to 100% for a split second before the governor takes back over, causing torque spikes.

It can also happen if the throttle is lower, so you get sudden loss of power as well.

For binding, I search for “governor” and use the last two that are listed as on and off, with off being on key release for my collective.

On the R66 the switch at the end of the collective is the engine beep trim. It’s not the governor on/off switch.

This should be logged as a separate bug. I logged it for the Cabri G2 in 2020, but it affects any helicopter with a governor that works how the Robinson’s do.

The issue with the R66 isn’t only functionality. It should be on by default since there isn’t a cockpit switch to turn it on. It turns on and off properly with the key bindings, but I have seen several videos on YT of other users having the same issue where the rpm/rrpm are pegged to the top of the gauge after startup.
