The 3D model is quite pretty but that is unfortunately the only positive thing I can say about the Saab.
Carenado is still churning out new products constantly, while doing zero work on this broken plane. Surely Asobo shouldn’t be accepting a plane being left in such an unfinished state, where basic features are still not fixed.
Also is quite a disservice to the work WT put into the UNS-1, that the only plane in which it is implemented, Carenado has messed up and still not connected it to the nav display.
Planes like these should not be build and released in collaboration with Asobo. The planes are 80/20 at best. We don’t get the necessary updates although Carenado submitted updates. We see that Asobo doesn’t bother or have the resources to update this plane. They keep 3rd party devs from actually building a good or study level plane. What is the business logic behind this?
I heard somewhere that Asobo is porting some of the premium 2024 to 2020 (hard to keep up with the news). Any idea if this aircraft might be? (I realise that is a pretty speculative question).
I’ve just had the same issue, however if you fiddle with the knob just to the right of the ROSE/ARC knob, it’ll switch it to VOR/ILS mode in the ND, obviously if your Nav radios are set. Just landed at EGPF in heavy cloud and all was well.
As others have said though, no flightplan is visible in the ND despite it being loaded into the UNS. Only way I’ve been able to get around this is to duplicate the flight plan from simbrief into the default planner, then at least I can follow the map on the EFB to have some idea of where I am.
Yes, is possible to see the flight plan in both the PFD and the MFD. In this screenshot I’ve marked the buttons and knobs you need to operate to make them visible and change the range:
Also the navigation mode can be changed using the knob just to the left of the radio controls. In any case the flight plan must be loaded into UNS using the EFB - this works for me also.
But anyway the way the aircraft reacts it’s still very defective and slow and you may have problems in your approaches if they include tight turns. And the main problem for me is that the aircraft does not catch altitude at all, so you need to be aware to stop climb or descent manually, and that’s very annoying. If you are careful with that the plane uses ILS normally.
It’s a pity because I like this plane and I’ve used it a lot in career mode. I think that with a some corrections it could be a real pleasure to fly it.
You have to manually input your FP if I recall (don’t know if they fixed that yet)? You used to have to input waypoints backwards from STAR to SID. This a few months back but might still be the case.
I normally use the EFB to create flight plans, including departures and arrivals. Sending it to the UNS works. Creating it directly on the UNS is something I tried just once, I found it cumbersome and slow and from then on I used the EFB. Less realistic but much easier.
If you use the PMS GTN750 you can also import it directly from Simbrief into the box, works like a charm. I am unsure if it works the same with the TDS GTN750, but I would imagine that it likely does as well.
Does anyone else have an issue where the course described on the tool tip on the CRS knob (behind quadrant) and the displayed course on the CDI (analogue) is different by about 90 degrees?
Tried a short flight in SU4 Beta (where nothing in the Saab is sadly improved).
Don’t have tooltips on, but also experienced, that the analogue course was 90 degrees off from the course on the digital CDI in nav mode.
Also a completely useless FD/AP when in appr mode. Giving constant full deflection inputs for tiny corrections, and trying to “snake its way” down before i took over manually. Edit: Looks like this specific flaw might have been due to a new widespread bug in SU4.
The Saab could be such a great plane if only it got some of the attention it desperately needs.
It’s a real shame, I would say it’s one of the nicest models in the game, and when it works it’s a lot of fun. Just needs a good iron to get the wrinkles out.
