The rule of thumb is to adjust target altitude right after you change the VNAV mode. This plane is full of unpredictability and desperately needs an AAU overhaul.
Half of the listed fixes for the 340 in SU2 (Full changelog) are not even implemented on the Saab yet. They could start with that at least.
And yeah, a proper AAU to bring the plane up to to proper standards would be lovely.
Interesting, this is one area of the aircraft that has always worked for me. Just to clarify, this is in free flight. I donât know what it does in career mode, I havenât used it there. Iâm interested to see what you find in yours. I wonder if it has anything to do with me using the PMS GTN750 autopilot alongside the aircraftâs autopilot. I will test both with and without the PMS GTN750 and see.
Cheers.
Testing this out here in a bit, in free flight and I will also report back. Thanks
@chuckmo8 Ok, so thank you for this great tid-bit of information and I also can confirm that in free flight you can get the flight plan on the ND once you request your IFR from the in-game ATC. It displayed on both the ND and the weather display.
Once I was well established enroute, I cancelled IFR to see what happens and it then deleted the flight plan off of both my ND and weather display. So, you must keep your IFR plan active with the in-game ATC in order to keep it displayed. Rather disappointing to be sure, Iâd rather fly in silence with nothing in the ND then to suffer through the in-game ATC.
@VillaJota Also, for the FLC climb, I just confirmed that this is working for me as expected both with the PMS GTN750 running the AP and without it in free flight without in-game ATC. I will try it with the in-game ATC later today and see if that is glitching that part of the AP as well. Anything is possible at this point. Cheers
New Edit - I found no issues with it capturing altitude using FLC and climb speed of 160kts, with or without ATC / PMS GTN750 / Stock AP. For me this is one of the things that actually works well. Cheers.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this or not, changing the barometer from inHg to millibar/hPa⊠For an aircraft where the largest operator of the type is in Australia, Iâm very surprised that there is no apparent way to change this. I believe the same goes for the FMS, whereby weight is in LBS and not KGS.
If anyone knows a workaround please let me know!
I think there may have been some kind of streamed update, because several features that previously worked flawlessly no longer do. For example, uploading a flight plan into the UNS from the PMS GTN750âs SimBrief import no longer communicates with the UNS at all. Likewise, the autopilot function of the PMS unit no longer interfaces with the aircraftâs onboard AP system.
Thatâs incredibly frustratingâthose integrations were what made this otherwise disappointing version of a great aircraft at least tolerable and somewhat flyable. I initially suspected the latest PMS GTN750 update might have caused the issue, but even after reverting to the last working version, the problem remained.
Shame on you, Asobo, Carenado, and Microsoft, for taking those options away from us without adding back in proper aircraft systems functionality to replace the workarounds weâve were using.
If it means that they are fixing the Saab so you donât have to use a bad workaround in the future, it is certainly worth it to break support for some external tool.
The goal isnât to have the plane working using a toolbar addon - it is to have it working with the actual systems on the plane.
I have been flying this plane a bit more recently. The (in my opinion) pleasant surprise that is the YS-11 got me a real hunger for decent prop liners.
Letâs not beat around the bush: the Saab in its current state is NOT âa decent prop linerâ by any standard. Itâs pretty terrible. How this got released as a âPremium planeâ is astounding, and how itâs still in the state itâs in a year after release is shameful.
Nonetheless, Iâm sticking with it, purely based on its potential. The real airplane is a very cool, and I desperately want this to be good too, eventually.
Let us hope the 340 will see some very much needed attention and love in the near future. Until then I just keep plodding on with it, working around the myriad bugs, turning a blind eye to its faults, determined to ignore its glaring issues.
This was one of my most anticipated aircraft for MSFS 2024 and therefore a great disappointment. However there is hope for fixes yet. Perhaps one day it will live up to its potential.
Jorg says there are 70-90 aircraft fixes scheduled for SU4, so letâs all hope the Saab340 is one of them
Hopefully - given Heavy Cargo is apparently also in progress for SU4, it would make sense for the Saab to get a tidy up in time for that
Well, to be honest, the PMS GTN750 is an excellent workaround, it is an amazing tool in any aircraft. I view no differently than installing any aftermarket navaid in an aircraft, so I guess I really should be careful calling it a workaround.
Are they fixing this aircraft? who knows for sure. I am not finding anything in the aircraft that is working now that wasnât before, only the loss of the very useful PMSGTN750. I use SPAD.neXt for nearly everything on the flight deck that can be bound, and there is a lot, and it works wonderfully. It is very flyable in its present condition, and I see others with success and with issues, some of which I share. Overall, though, it is useable enough to enjoy but still leaves a lot to be desired.
any word on the SU4 release?
Last I heard was that it will be planned for the official launch of the simulator on the PS5.
So, according to the FAQ, thatâs 8th of December 2025.
As you know sim updates are subject to have delays, and there is no guarantee that it will contain any updates to the Saab 340.
Personally I would still hope for an alternate Saab 340 from a third party like Just Flight. Because even if all the bugs get fixed itâs still just a default aircraft with a low level of fidelity.
A third party development by a decent developer would indeed be preferable. At the moment, it doesnât sound like anyone respectable has got anything in the pipeline though.
In the mean time, I think a lot of people would be more than happy if the version we do have could be âelevatedâ to the quality of Carenadoâs other recent output (the B55, T210, F33 were all quite good), or the level that Inibuilds offered with the recent YS-11 Local Legend.
I thought Jorg said at the last dev update this would be one that would get an update?
