And after leaving it on for 10 hours, I see the grey fuzz as the runway(s):
This airport (OMDB) is just an example. This happens everywhere, every airport, handcrafted, generic, doesn’t matter.

Since some days, I cannot start free flights with activated heavy addon scenery (Hamburg harbour and EDHI scenery by Simdocks). After “start flight”, the scenery loading is not finished and the scenery gets blurrier over the time of waiting. RAM usage is at about 19 GB (32 GB installed), network traffic is down to 0, so MSFS does not try to stream scenery data, instead it seems to unload the highest LOD levels of satellite imagery.
When deactivating all addons, scenery is loaded.
As it did work a week ago, something server side seems to have changed.
plz use cloudflare dns (1.1.1.1)
I’m using cloudflare, and still it takes occasionally too long to load the flight.
i had the same prob since the launch day but installing sim update beta 2 fixed it for me; at least 70% faster loading time which is decent improvement giving that the sim loads most of the elements from the servers.
Hi, I have already solved my problem, in my case I had MSFS.Map.Enhancement installed, even after uninstalling it something remains in the system which blocks loading the map and flying itself. After using this solution everything went back to normal and works fine.
We have also received reports that if you ever used Google Mod in MSFS2020, it can cause loading issues in MSFS2024. If you are experiencing loading issues, we highly recommend checking to see if this mod is still making changes on your PC.
Warning: we do not recommend using any streamed map data add-on to replace Bing maps.
After updating my Nvidia driver and tuning of the Nvidia filters, I can now load into any airport. I did not start having the problem until I installed the last windows 11 update. I do believe it was the Nvidia filters @moeliw mentioned above.
having this issue again right now. impossible to start a flight at KSFO. other airports farther away fine. pc, store.
If anyone is still having this issue try reducing your Object and or Terrain LOD. I will do a little more testing but I believe that is the issue for some. If you are using some program I cannot mention that might have caused this.
Why should we have to reduce our settings? I think the issue is server side.
I have the problem now in LSZH, no way to start a flight. Seems peak usage local time around LSZH now. Last night (for me) at peak hour local time California I could not start a flight at KSFO.
Edit: But anyway, you are right. I now lowered TLOD and OLOD to 100 and could start a flight right away at LSZH. Could also increase TLOD and OLOD to max right away after flight start. Thank you for the workaround!
Edit2: Did some further tests, for me it is enough to lower TLOD from 400 to 300 and then the flight starts.
I’m experiencing the same thing but I’m also getting loading/stream error at the loading screen once it hits about 93% loading world data. It will eventually get into the sim but I can see it’s not completely loading all of the map data because the globe is blotchy when you zoom in. I click fly and it just sits there with the clouds and music. I’ve literally tried everything. I have a high-end rig and fast internet. I’ve reinstalled the sim, no addons or community fold content. I’ve factory reset my modem and router but zero success. This ■■■■ is getting really irritating especially since it’s been 3 months since launch. I bought the premium deluxe edition and I have $1,000’s invested in equipment and can’t use 2024 now. I was having issues with 2020 until yesterday and magically it decided to work.
The issue is not only related to the SU1_beta version. I reverted to the live version for testing purposes and the problem with loading flights persists. For example, in the last 10 minutes, I tried twice to select KLGA runway 4. After clicking “Start Flight” the loading circle keeps spinning, spinning, spinning …
That’s interesting. Then it sounds like more and more that it is a server side issue.
If you zoom out a bit before clicking “start flight” you see tiles loading and resetting, again and again after you click. I then lowered TLOD from 400 to 350 and the flight started in seconds but I then saw the highest VRAM usage ever, more than 26GB, which lead to crazy stutters since I have only 24GB. Lowering TLOD from 350 to 300 made it flyable with VRAM usage just below 24GB. Normally I’m well below 24GB and can start flights at LSZH without any issues with TLOD 400.
Edit: when waiting while the circle spins, I see this which seems abnormal:
Wow. TLOD of 400. I’m only at 120 with an RTX 3080 with 12gb vram and I still have problems loading. You’re right, there seems to be something really funky going on with memory usage.
I’m almost 100% sure this is a server side issue. On Xbox too, it can sometimes take forever to load into a flight or not load at all. Plus, the textures can’t seem to load properly and “stay” loaded - they flash and strobe on/off rapidly both around the aircraft and in the distance. Noticed this both in the beta and public build. Happens after a flight or two.
I hope they resolve these memory and server upstreaming issues soon, the game is nearly unplayable every time you get into a jet aircraft with complex enough sytems, LOD, pop in, and draw distance can get really bad, to the point where the graphics just look like ugly, flat-looking polygons.
MSFS '20 looks and plays flawlessly compared to this.
I agree! Things have been all over the place since the latest update to the Beta. All was running well with the beta and everything more stable and I was running with all settings maximised. Since 1.3.13.0 I have had difficulty loading flights and multiple CTD.s - In addition scenery has been a disaster and back to before FSX levels!! It has been patchy because 3rd party saved on the PC loaded and looked fine BUT anything streamed despite 16G cache is a disaster.
This is a crazy and unacceptable position to be in when the permanent SU1 is already overdue. This was doing so well Why on earth send this small update which has now scewed everything??
Things have been looking bad for me as well on Xbox SX. Performance has been fine, zero CTDs and all, but textures are looking poor mostly, and tend to rapidly flash on and off after a while. They look really blurry and ugly, with poor draw distances and LOD loading in on objects until I’m almost right next to them or top of them (in flight).
At other times, it can look fine, but most often than not, looks poor, especially as you fly over PG cities.
Series X hardwired to 200+ Mbps fiber, 100 GB rolling cache, 150+ GB free space on the internal SSD and console + game always booted fresh.
still not fixed with the latest build
Nope. I’m hoping the issue is server side and can be fixed without an update to the sim. I’m not sure if beta uses a different server, that maybe after the update is released, we could revert back to the main/production server?
