Multiple sim updates have now required patching due to inherent issues

I can build today and I can build tomorrow.
The code stays the same.
But the build-date will differ.
Now, what’s the delta in code?
Exactly 0.0f

It’s even crazier than that. !!
The music might appear play, stop, then start playing again but it is actual NOT stopping playing - instead, it is being switched back and forth between different sound devices.

Me too. I’ve been using Visual Studio for many many years. I guess you were agreeing with me.

I’m not saying other people didn’t get a different build on release day or whatever, but I didn’t, at least not until May 3rd or 4th, when everyone was supposed to be force-opted-out (I was already opted-out though, and the dates of my files are still dated April 14th. If the files were built after the 14th, Microsobo would’ve had to intentionally “touch” the files to fake the dates).

‘product managers’ are not developers. Regardless if a game is ready for release, and by release I mean available to the public and able to work on a almost inconceivable amount of pc’s (just think how many pc configs are unique), Product managers, publishers want the game to follow a very specific release schedule. I’d put money on it that if it were up to the core devs of this simulator they would not have released it when they did. But sometimes your hands are tied.

Perfect example is Cyberpunk 2077.

All that said this sim has come a long way and is impressive in so many ways

Not quite. If you build tomorrow the code is different from today if you have a good build environment and process: at least the time stamps and file dates are different and so the code is different. Of cause the build number has to be increased so the 1.25.7 cannot be the latest build number and this if even “only” the AIRAC has been updated. If there’s no enforced build closure somebody checks in last minute fixes for sure!
The problems for me started when I opted out of the Beta one day after SU9 was officialy released. If I already then had the latest Build with v1. 25.7 (SU9 Beta II) I would not have noticed any further updates upon leaving the Beta. So I had no chance to do what I as a tester should have done as the last step: test with exactly the level of code that was shipped as SU9.

Sadly, a vast majority of these issues could have been avoided if the release had of been pushed back, as they were highlighted during the beta. During the recent dev Q&A someone on the team (potentially Jorg), said they were high fiving each other on the release of SU9. I personally believe this is a management/culture issue.

Interesting concept this. You should apply to work with MS Asobo.

The pile of dark red and brown sludge I see on the ground used to be a dead horse (a lot of people kept on beating it).

Edit - Sorry if this offended any animal lovers out there, but the poor horse was already dead. This was just a joke, and I also gave :hearts: the post I quoted.

You talk as if hotfixes are unique to MSFS?

I’m glad for the people with major issues that might not have to wait until sim update 10 in July. I’m not really having any new major issues that I haven’t already been facing since the sim’s release.

One word – permutations
Testing software is a very hard problem to solve. I made a very good living doing just that job. In todays world of programmers skill mistakes can be entered at any level. With complex software with many independant parts a ‘misadventure’ could happen. What looks like a ‘problem’ that has never been addressed may be a new issue coming from a different source.
I am in no account defending MS.
Between you and me I’m impressed this game works as well as it doses.

What an understatement !!!

Pushing a Beta version out to a random bunch of consumers, and asking “what do you think”, and then seemingly to ignore any feedback, is not going to work, as can clearly be seem, over the past 2 years.

This approach is purely a PR move, to attempt to convince the consumer, that they are being listened to.

I appreciate how hard they’re working on this sim and trying to fix the issues. Maybe inject some positivity into your life and things might look less bleaker hey.

I wonder what would happen if you didn’t do any tweaks and fixes?
Get a spare HDD or SSD… Put the BIOS settings back to defaults. Install default windows, install msfs and leave the settings as their defaults.
Try it for a week. It might work. If it doesn’t, you have a legitimate gripe.
If it does work on the defaults, only change one thing at a time and test for several.hours. That way you have a fighting chance of finding the cause of your issues.

Holy moly, but that REALLY got a huge out-loud laugh from me this morning. Love it! This has to be the reason that I keep reading these various forum threads. There’s a lot of very subtle wit buried in these comments. Thank you!

They definitely fixed some issue we pointed out in the beta, but they just didn’t fix enough of them.

However, some issues like the missing “Delete from Xbox cloud storage” string almost seemed like intentional bugs left in just so we can feel important. But that’s just a conspiracy theory (the developers speak French and simply skipped the English translation perhaps).

The music plays by default until the user preferences are read. Then it does what the preferences say. They could load the preferences file earlier, but that would probably mean loading it twice.
My feeling is that the default should be music muted, but that would increase the apparent load time to anyone who chooses to have music (does anyone really want muzac in the game?)

I do not mind the Music, (have it turned down low), – but what annoys me, is that when the Music is playing, it glitches ( actually switches over temporarily to a different sound output device), and this always sound like the sim is about to CTD …)

I must be conditioned to "Loss of sound = imminent CTD), because every time the Music Sound “Glitches”, my heart misses a beat, as I expect a CTD to follow.

and Sometimes I am not let down !!

Great advice!

Just to satisfy your curiosity, though, that is essentially how my very low-end, 5-year old lap-top based system is configured.

The only thing I have tweaked/fixed is the nVidia control panel where I set the FPS cap to 25. Everything else is “stock” PC store settings. I am also running most of the MSFS graphics settings on low/medium.

If I begin seeing any drops in my typically flat-lined 25 FPS, I start looking for something else to turn down in my MSFS settings until FPS is solidly flat again. I have found that in my weak system at least, overall performance is always best when my FPS is locked onto 25. (There are no silk purses in this sow’s ear!)

BUT I don’t experience any of the CTD’s or stutters that seem to be plaguing many others.

I actually quite like the music.

A couple of days ago I thought it’d crashed on loading; the music stopped and the progress bar stopped moving. My heart was in my mouth but I thought, “Let’s just see”.

It must’ve been a full minute, maybe more (seemed like a lifetime), but eventually it just carried on loading. It was fine after that, no problems at all.

Any hints on what the development update/patch will be like ?
