Mutliple screens

How well MSFS works with multiple screens? For example I have my monitor for an external view, and will it work if I connect second or third 10" screen and move some elements, like VFR map or some of the panels?

Yes, it will work, but a loss in frames/stutters can occur.

I see. Hope that such loss won’t be very noticable

When you drag your pop out and drag your panels to another screen, you’ll see that the control for that window will still reside in the cockpit (you’ll only get the viewport and not the whole instrument), you’ll have a display on another monitor, but you’ll have to adjust it from the main display/cockpit…

I thought of moving a PFD/VFR map/NAV screen to second, 10,1" monitor.

TL/DR version.

Not great. - it’s better to use 3rd party applications. The moving maps are way better.
Check out VFRMap and LittleNavMap (both free)

FULL VERSION.

Not great. There is no real multi monitor support. Mixed refresh rates displays really mess things up (which is an issue you might run into when adding smaller panels)

At present I run multi display and I do pop out my ATC window to the 2nd monitor. But both are gsync capable and locked at 120mhz

I did have another 13" connected but that was only capable of 100hz and with it connected as a destination for pop out windows I was seeing pretty bad FPS.

What I did was move the 13" to a different pc, have the pc’s on same network and use simconnect capable apps to get my instruments and maps where I wanted them.

*The 13" display is just the right size to fit under my main display. On this I use SkyElite (payware) which provides me with an instrument panel where I can see all my important instruments at a glance without having to zoom the in-game view.
SkyElite also has a moving map which pulls your flight plan data from the game so you can see your planned course. I have this on a different monitor…

I use another monitor for LittleNavMap which is a great app. It too does not have to run on the game PC itself. It can run on a networked pc.

There is at least one other moving map which is much better than the in game vfr map - it’s called vfrmap or.something.

All of these CAN be run on the same PC as the game…but if you have an old pc or laptop sitting around unused you could use that. They mostly display the info using a browser so if your old pc can run chrome…

I see. How about MFD and PFD panels?

Moving maps you can find plenty of freeware…

MFD, PFD, custom instrumentation panels…that’s where the payware takes over.

As mentioned, I use SyElite. It provides a workable PFD/MFD that fits my needs.

These aren’t replicas of in game instrumentation though. But in some ways they are better.

There are other payware options too which cost more but start to close in on actually replicating real world instruments…with the ability to place those on different displays. At this level it’s starting to get into the “sim pit” /.“home cockpit” type area and they offer more than I needed and looked a bit complex…

I will take a look, thanks

Project Magenta would fit all my needs, but it is way too expensive.

Not to get too off topic, after some time working in modern gas stations there are some sexy server 2002 enabled touch screens I would so like to re appropriate and re-service.

Yes: a POS and we all know why we hate that acronym.

Hardware is not a problem, as you can even use RaspberryPi with a touch screen  Software is more of a problem.

I run the pfd and mfd on two 10 inch touch screens with air manger and little nap map on the 4th with zero issues

Looks good. Wish they had such panels for jets like Boeing.

Yeah def more towards the Ga side

i don’t see much drop in fps. i use a secondary screen as my pfd, nd and other pop outs for aerosoft crj

Hi. So…I’m running 3 monitors as one screen for my primary display. I’ve also got a very small monitor that I use for the G3000 on the Longitude. I hold the ALT key and drag it to this monitor and then hit ALT+ENT (I think, I’m not at it right now) and it magically fills that tiny screen. Wonderful.

Now I’ve just added another 10” monitor and thought I’d drag anything else that is draggable on to it. The problem is that when I hover my mouse over it, and hit ALT, it just goes directly to that first tiny monitor and is stuck there. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Instead of using alt hold try using the “up arrow” looking pop out feature on the screen instead of the alt keys and drag it where you want it then alt enter it to full?

Thanks for the reply but I’m not sure what “up arrow” you mean? I do not see one in the cockpit display.

Sorry I guess it’s only on ATC and NAV window but the option that isnt maximize or minimize on those, I did find this which may help?
