Just wanted to give a T+2 months or so update on using FS2020 with the G2
I had previously reported constant CTDs with the last few revisions of Nvidia’s drivers. Other people were experiencing CTD, but nothing that was as blatantly linked to driver versions as my case. After some more troubleshooting, I discovered that my GPU overclock is more sensitive with newer versions of the drivers. In hindsight, this isn’t really that shocking and feel like I should have caught this sooner. I will update the posts where I reported CTDs.
Here are the broad strokes of where I’ve settled for now
5950X, PBO on, curve optimizer -10 all core
3090 FE, +100 core (dialed back from +150 core/+200 mem)
NVidia driver 461.40
HAGS on: I know it goes against the conventional wisdom on these forums. I felt like it made a noticeable improvement (more latency than framerate) in PUBG, so running older drivers with HAGS off was bothering me.
SMT on: (this was a tough one, but SMT off disables my computer’s ability to sleep, also flipping a switch to cut a 5950X’s performance by 30% just feels weird. I ran some tests showing that SMT off can yield a little extra performance in FS2020, but it wasn’t the game changer that some have reported)
TAA 70 / OXR 100: I’ve experimented so much with combinations of these settings. This feels like the best middle ground for my setup.
G2 90 Hz: I wanted to mention this because oh my god, the ability to actually run the G2 at 60 Hz (allows for reprojection down to 20 Hz) would be a total game changer. TAA 100 / OXR 100 on the G2 is quite the experience. The only thing that ruins 60 Hz is some pretty intense flickering in the headset. It’s been discussed on reddit, people have RMA’d their headsets over this. It seems fairly obvious to me that it’s a simple mismatch between the panel refresh rate and some kind of PWM backlight/black-frame-insertion. It’s probably an extremely easy firmware or software fix. facepalm
WMR motion reprojection on: I go back and forth on this depending on the day. Lately I’ve been doing more MR on. You get a better picture with it off, but 30 hz takes a toll on your eyes and brain.
tl;dr I hadn’t intended to do a full status update, I really just came here to say that so far I’m getting good results with 461.40 versus the 457.30 I’ve been running for the past several weeks. I’m don’t know if it’s any better, but it doesn’t feel worse, either. I’m also not seeing adverse effects from running HAGS on.
As always, your mileage may (actually, it probably will) vary depending on exact hardware/software configuration.
