My constant PC CTDs since SU5 FIXED.... the silliest thing

I was getting CTDs 100% of the time a couple minutes into every single flight since SU5. Maybe 30 flight attempts in a row. It was an extremely rare occasion when I would get a CTD prior to SU5.
I was troubleshooting as best I could figure out and getting HUGELY frustrated and finally gave up for a few days.
Gave it another attempt today and FINALLY realized that (out of habit) I was recording each flight with my NVIDIA capture mode. ALL I HAD TO DO WAS NOT CAPTURE VIDEO WITH THE NVIDIA CAPTURE AND NOW ZERO CTDs. Also, using the video capture from the Game Bar has not caused any CTDs so far.

my nvidia divers are the current 471.68, but it also did the same thing with the prior drivers, as I updated the drivers as one of my futile attempts to fix the ctds.

I am so relieved to finally have functionality back after several weeks of constant CTDs. your results may vary obviously.

good to know..i checked it out, and it is off…still having a ctd here or there…good it is working for you and u can enjoy the sim now…

again proof ctd’s are mostly a user issue.

I see where you are coming from, but a sim/game should be stable enough not to crash under the myriad circumstances FS2020 is crashing. At the very least the crash should be descriptive, not a blank CTD.

I’ve had a pretty stable experience since the sim released but after SU5 I do get the occasional CTD here and there.

Not everybody can have a dedicated gaming PC with zero additional software installed or settings enabled that can tip FS2020 over the edge. Oh, there’s also the little bit where Asobo has recognized and fixed many of those crashes.

I believe both of these statements to be accurate, in their own way, and for most circumstances.

Almost of all of my CTD’s have been random, and unrepeatable.
The repeatable ones are usually geographic in nature. Avoid the area, and I don’t CTD.
Some geographic ones were flyable if I adjusted auto-gen quality from Ultra to <=Medium.
Some CTD’s were related to a GPS addon. Remove the addon or turn off airspace messages.
On one occasion a stutter, then crash occurred because I didn’t have a modified aircraft installed.

Each situation called for a change to my system in some way to make the problem go away. I’m currently testing flying without the scenery caching enabled. Earlier in the week I had two crashes at a geographic region, at Megeve altiport. I re-visited there after it was turned off, and I didn’t CTD.

Ideally the sim should not crash under any circumstances, and all these events should be trapped in some way, and that’s on Asobo to fix.

yep.. there are many more of such examples.

But the good point, the OP reported at least back what the issue was and hopefully other users read that ( independend of my experiance that many users not reading existing topics/post ). Whether we need realy a now topic for that is another story. A simple “reply” in the existing topic where he former reported the issue, would be much better and not split topics into different threads ( beside of , that a “solution” is no longer a “issue” )

why have a dedicated CTD section at all if all helpful discoveries regarding CTDs are to be posted merely as a reply to one mega-bloated topic thread that already has 675(and counting) meandering replies, complaints, moans, observations, side-discussions, technical dissections, screenshots galore, error codes, etc that clearly are not related to my nvidia video capture situation

I rolled back the latest NVIDIA update to the one I had previous to SU5 and I seem to have eliminated my CTDs. I was getting them on every flight attempt and now after 5 test flights using Longitude and CJ4 (where I was always getting CTDs before) I have had no CTDs. In my case this was indeed the last resort after trying everything that has been suggested. My NVIDIA update happened the same day as SU5.

Tried all that was recommended here and I’m still getting CTD clicking fly now. I just want to get in the air so bad again. Before su5 never had a CTD ever.

It is a real shame that you are in this situation.

so, then is what you mentioned in both topics is no longer valid:

I never had issues with CTDs until today after SU5.

?

If “since SU5” is still valid, you reported the issue in correct topic , but tell how you FIX the issue, which lies in your own system setting, within a completly different topic.

Updating to the Nvidia Driver Version 471.68 did not solve my constant CTD from loading screen Problem.

Well I guess next time I will make sure to bury a CTD solution heads-up which may or may not be exclusively related to SU5 DEEP in a topic with 800 replies and 500 tangent discussions and 99% no solutions, so that nearly nobody will ever read it. That seems helpful to the community, kinda like endless debates by forum “karens” who have a lot of time on their hands to debate exactly where they think posts should go.

Hello @FloodedTuba594 .
I think you both brought your stand points across, but either way, thank you for reporting your CTD solution. I added it to the solution list if that is ok:

Have a nice day and happy flying.
