Can’t believe it but my Gigabyte Vision OC 3080TI failed last night.
I was away from the PC for a few mins which was just on the desktop idle, and when i returned my GPU fans were going full bore and i was met with a black screen.
I immediately switched the pc off and removed the card which was red hot. I waited for it to cool and upon installing the GPU, to my surprise my PC booted. Everything seemed normal - that was until i started FS2020.
My RTX 3080TI will now not use any more than 220watt and the performance is terrible. GPU-Z shows 12v rail #2 to be drawing zero power. I’ve switched the PCIE cables around but nothing changes. So i presume some sort of resistor/mosfet has blown.
I’ve contacted the store i bought it from, and they are getting it collected Tuesday. The downside is they have zero stock of my card, and they said they won’t fix it, so will be refunding me when they receive my card which can take up to 10 working days. I’ve tried contacting Gigabyte but have got no where, reading the internet tells me Gigabyte are a total nightmare to RMA with anyway
So looks like i’m going to be without a GPU for a while whilst i wait for my refund
And then it’s a hunt for a new GPU. Think i’ll steer clear of Gigabyte in the future
I doubt that it is but given the chance mining bots will run your gpu at max power and not all are that shy about how they go about it. But apart from that keep a close watch on your PSU, it wouldn’t do to have two expensive cards die on you.
MSI is a bit shoddy relative to quality from what I’ve seen. Personally, you can’t go wrong with EVGA and Asus when it comes to GPUs, but everyone has their own opinion. EVGA warranty is pretty much the best you’ll come across.
I’ve heard the same about EVGA, however this may be against the grain, but I’m not a fan at all how the EVGA cards look.
Also I’d love an Asus Strix, however the stores I’m looking at in the UK, the 3090Ti are pretty thin on the ground and the MSI suprim seems a good option
Oh dear! Mining bots are not something you install yourself or at least not deliberately, that’s usually done by some bloodsucking anonymous soul that lives somewhere like Slovakia or Romania
I’m thinking either a rog strix 3080ti or bite the bullet and pay another £200 and get the Msi 3090ti. I know the 3090ti isn’t massively more powerful, but the added extra 12gb ram should carry me through for a while. I doubt we will see games using upwards of 20gb vram for a long time
If I go for the Msi, it’s a 3 slot card so will need to change my vertical mount as mine only accommodates 2 slot cards.
That’s not what this thread is for either I think most GPU’s will fail eventually but I’ve always had better luck with nvidia cards.
My brother and I have bought a lot of video cards over the years. I favour Asus and my brother likes MSI. Depending on your budget, I don’t think you can go far wrong with these two.
therefore I ask why these topic exist, still not understand what the point is for a “Community Support” category … and there is no question I can determine in OP post
And yes… GPUs can fail, as each electronic stuff, but never in my life I noticed so many reports about fails like in last years.
The problem of the high end cards is they demand more and more power.
Everytime when the manufacturers release a new card the power demand go’s up.
All that power generates heat and when the card running on his maximum performance there is the possibility that one or more electronic parts burnout.
I think it is not special that it happend with a Gigabyte card, because it can happen with every card from any manufacturer.
Get the rog strix 3080ti, or go for the Msi suprim 3090ti
The Msi is gonna cost another £200, however I do have to buy another vertical mount to accommodate this 3 slot card
I am being drawn to the 3090ti obviously as I feel it’s more future proof with the added vram
Hopefully my Corsair RM850x is man enough to run it
YouTube videos with the MSI 3090ti and 12900k seem to pull a max of 600-650 full system load drawn so I feel like it should be ok. I really if I can help it don’t want to replace my psu just yet as that’s a further added expense
MSI 3090ti and 12900k - You can heat up your sleeping room with that combination.
Buy a high end, stable and powerfull enough PSU like,
EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 GT
Corsair RMX Series, RM1000X 1000 Watt (Gold)
ASUS ROG STRIX 1000W Gold PSU
A PSU is very important to keep a 3090ti stable and alive in combination with a Intel 12900K.
I personaly go no further than 80% out of my PSU to keep it stable.
I would reconsider EVGA. They have one of the best warranties policies in the business and they have their 90 day step-up program. Nvidia 4xxx is very likely to be released within 90 days. EVGA will honor their warranty even if you buy a used evga card from joe blow, so your evga card has higher resale value
