My thoughts on graphics FS2024

Scenery looks good. Trees and rocks and ground is maybe a 20% improvement over 2020.

Planes, not so much, The prop animation on the C172 is bad to me. In external view the spinner looks bad and in internal, the spinning is bad. It looks cartoony. The Landing light on the C172 at night, when viewed from the front in external is messed up.

The colors look washed out to me. FS2020 is nice and rich, but for example the map display on the G1000 is pale green, not a rich green as in 2020.

I guess all things about this game considered, I feel let down.

I was expecting it to be much, much better than 2020…I was wrong. Oh well, I will play 2020 when I want to fly. I will play around with 2024 just to tweak it, but my desire has flown the coup.

Thanks for your time.

Agreed. It looks too “clean”. Too “graphics-y”. Maybe colors are too vibrant? Reminds me of when you take a picture of your house, then a realtor takes a pic of your house as well and it is oversaturated colors, over the top HDR, and just looks intentionally doctored.

Almost like seeing the world when you have sunglasses on, without having sunglasses on.

I don’t have any idea what type of graphics cards either of you are using, but here at my end I am using an RTX-4080. Using NVIDIAs in-game filters to tweak sim colors/brightness/contrast has worked the charm. I have tuned the sim to be very pleasing to my eyes and as lifelike as possible. Maybe that’s not what you are looking for, but for me, it has worked amazingly well. YMMV.

Colors look about the same as 2020 on my DisplayHDR 1000-rated monitor. Slight differences in color balance but same, reasonably accurate saturation/desaturation as before.

I certainly don’t experience any unusual amount of desaturation compared to 2020; either we’re not seeing the same thing or we’re interpreting it very differently.

I don’t think the atmosphere model has changed for particulates? So it may look more realistic under some conditions than others.

Trees seem greener, but this might be from Bijan seasons which I don’t know if it’s possible to disable yet.

Otherwise, graphics quality is about the same as 2020 except for the addition of extra rock textures on steep cliffs, which is kinda nice in canyons I guess.

Honestly I’m fine that they didn’t put much effort into improving graphics quality when they have improved graphics performance consistency. Once they fix that VRAM bug that strikes a lot of people, and third-party airports update to the new LOD system, people are going to benefit from that increased smoothness of loading more and more.

And that is more important IMHO than eye candy.
