tl;dr: 100% better than stock or prior freeware mods, but not even close to what Drziewicki, iniScene, FlyTampa or others could do.
Overall, the scenery is reasonably well-modeled, and with no interiors, performance is great. Lighting is a little basic and textures are just okay, but still much better than stock. Nice to see the fuel farm, ARFF station and VOR modeled, along with the taxiway overpasses for Runways 2R/20L and 2C/20C modeled, though the roads underneath have not been adjusted very completely. There are some amusing static items like construction equipment around the former drainage basin which is being filled and paved over as part of the current billion dollar-plus airport reconstruction, but oddly some Navy (USMC?) F/A-18s parked over near the military side, which are not appropriate for the site. The military hangars also still reference the former TN ANG C-130 wing over there, but do have Army Nat’l Guard copter statics.
The airport is also missing the main ATC tower, which is plainly visible on Google Maps (labeled as US Sector Radar Unit, complete with a pretty nice ground level photo). In fact, there are custom buildings around the airport grounds representing all the smaller support and aviation-related businesses on that part of the property, but a completely empty chunk of scenery right where the tower should go. Makes me think it was intended but excluded for whatever reason, or just not done? Dunno, but it should be added.
Finally, it appears the scenery is missing an AFCAD with airline gate assignments, so utilities like FSLTL or FS Traffic are going to stick planes willynilly rather than where they more or less belong.
All in all, much better than the stock autogen but could be improved.
I agree with your views on it. It’s much better than anything we had before and I’m happy for now. I did open a support ticket about the missing tower so hopefully it gets added. Vertical Sim has been talking about doing a BNA for some time so maybe he still will. I think I’m in the minority on this, but I like that they didn’t model the interior. I’d rather save on the performance than have that.
I generally tend to agree, but I look at something like FlyTampa’s KBOS or Drziewicki’s KDCA to see beautifully modeled airports with nice interiors (great interiors for DCA!) that perform really well on my system.
But generally yes, I’d rather see texture improvements on the buildings, and the addition of some things like branding on the new airport hotel (which is modeled) and the addition of the Tower and an AFCAD so some cargo planes would spawn over at the FedEx ramp and airliners would be where they ought to be with FSLTL or FS Traffic.
That is very good to hear. I commented on their FB post about KBNA and pointed out the lack of the Tower, but didn’t see a reply (wasn’t really expecting one). I just wanted others to know of the lack before purchase. I didn’t mention the parking codes, but I’m glad they responded to you. All you need to do is look at FlyNashville’s social media photos to realize Concourses C and D basically belong to SWA. Hopefully the parking codes will be correct!
I work at BNA, and sent them a very long list of the parking codes for each gate. They acknowledged my efforts, so hopefully it actually comes to fruition.
I was somewhat skeptical of this scenery as I wasn’t super impressed with other scenery from FeelThere. It’s actually pretty good. I doubt VerticalSim continues his BNA project. He put it off to work on his home airport of TPA, and real world construction.
Based on their LaGuardia scenery, if Nashville wasn’t my “home” area (I live in Rutherford County and my wife works less than half a mile from the end of 2R/20L), I wouldn’t have bought it. But it is better than I expected, especially at dusk or early evening. I hope they update it next year to remove the construction materials from the big basin that’s being filled in between Concourses B and C, and remove the unnecessary static F/A-18s over in the GA support area.
I had high hopes for VerticalSim but as a smaller dev, he’s certainly got his hands full. His TPA is out now and looks quite nice. I will probably get that one in a week or two, but in the meantime, I’m going to look forward to any improvements FeelThere make to BNA. fingers crossed
I just noticed this scenery has now been updated on SimMarket (and probably other vendors) to include the new Satellite Concourse complete with passenger shuttle buses, and cleaned up all the construction clutter and fill-dirt stuff where the former (huge) drainage basin between Concourses B and C was located, which is now the new set of de-icing pads.
Sure thing - I was hoping they’d update for this. Similarly, in a year or 18 months when they fully demolish the cargo shed and build the Concourse D extension, I hope FeelThere updates again to include it. And then when they do the Concourse B extension which is coming after that, along with the extension of Runway 2L/20R … BNA has had a lot of changes and they’re not done yet!
I appreciate the update, but I wish someone else would do a higher quality BNA. It deserves it. VerticalSim can’t seem to make up his mind if he wants to do it or not.
