Navigraph or a payware aircraft

Ok so for the first time in a awhile,I have income….like Income that will be with me for a awhile,I have the necesites and I been thinking of treating myself..

I fly IFR and vatsim a lot and think Navigraph is worth it..is it?

From my point of view it depends, if you fly in US then there are free charts in the internet, but if you fly around the world i will go for navigraph. Also what aircraft are you planning to buy?

Someone will inevitably chime in here saying that anything other than Navigraph is second rate junk, but I guess that depends on what you fly and how rigorous you want to be. Most of us can get by without it. I do. Granted I’m not flying airliners, but still.

Even if you want to fly airliners, you can grab routings for actual flights off FlightAware and import those into Little NavMap and Vatsim then fly them in the sim. And you get access to lots of free charts with your Vatsim membership, through ChartFox.

Sure, you’re stuck flying with the default MSFS nav database, but how much does that really matter when push comes to shove?

I am a recent convert to Navigraph as of this past spring with the recent release of the PMDG 737 to MSFS. The regularly-updated AIRAC cycles are nice of course, but to me, the best features are in-sim access to nearly all the charts you will ever need, with detailed airport/runway data, comm frequencies, field elevations, etc. and a moving map display to track your flight progress. In addition, if you have a tablet, there is a companion “Charts” app that can run on your device as a second screen, providing all of the above (including the moving map display) and can also be used independently of the sim if you want to review charts and procedures offline between sim sessions. All in all, I find it adds a lot of value to IFR flying and trying to emulate real-world routes and procedures.

I have been paying month-to-month but I am probably going to just start paying yearly (which is cheaper anyway) in a couple months once our daughter’s wedding in October is done and paid for, lol.

To me the cost of Navigraph is worth it for the convince of world wide charts, all in the same format, in one simple app, and the ability to have more comprehensive nav data synced across all my apps, planes, and services.

I pay yearly for the discount.

Navigraph is also now in beta for it’s new version with VFR charts.

Navigraph also gives you the current AIRAC for simbrief. The navigraph nav data for MSFS includes stuff like ILS frequencies (stock MSFS is incomplete), some airports that are missing in vanilla MSFS and complete speed/altitude restrictions for your FMC and ATC.

I took out an annual sub to navigraph a few months back, wasn’t sure I needed it at the time but thought I’d give it a go. If you fly airliners it’s honestly worth it. Having an in game panel with ease of displaying a tracking map and quick look up of approach charts, airport layouts etc is fantastic.
It initially may seem like an expensive sub, but if you sim/use it daily its really quite cheap.
I’ve also learned a lot from using it. One of the best features is its ability to overlay and examine STARs & approaches over the map itself to see where each one originates from and ends up. It’s a huge teaching tool in this regard.
It also interfaces well with simbrief for fllght plan load in, and simbrief will use the latest AIRAC cycle too which is always a plus.
Not sure how I could fly airliners without it now tbh. I use it for GA IFR nav too.
Your sub also updates the AIRAC cycle of the various airliner add ons too. (CRJ, 737 etc)

No Brainer… Navigraph. Been using for years on a monthly subscription

But it´s so easy, you should save the income for the no-income times

If you fly regularly I´d say it´s worth the cost. It´s very convenient to have easy access to all charts both in the sim and the Charts-application.

Navigraph subscription, absolutely worth it.

Hi @CupOJello
Clearly a Navighraph subscription is much more useful than just another addon aircraft.
But before you get any new subscription or aircraft, make sure you have the minimum controls. i.e. joystick or yoke, throttles and rudder pedals.

Exactly this, same reason I stick with the Navigraph subscription - after a while you start to take it for granted that it’s there, as if it were just part of the aircraft you bought.

I’ve cancelled it a couple of times in the past, but I always miss it, especially for larger aircraft (not just airliners). Now I just keep the sub running.

Don’t forget that it is not just aircraft that navigraph integrates with, but also some apps like Pilot2ATC can use it (if you don’t fancy going on VATSIM, IVAO).

Navigraph Charts also has an app for mobile devices. You can use a tablet or phone and have it running outside of the sim.

You actually don’t even need the app, can just hit charts.navigraph.com as well.

I run an old Samsung android tablet mounted to my yolk for charts, love it.
