I have a 5800X3D, 4070 Ti, 32 GB of RAM and a Reverb G2. Nothing’s overclocked.
My GPU is working at about 40 % in flatscreen mode (1080p). Kind of low in comparison to 2020’s 60 % or so, but not horrible. However, when I switch to VR mode, my numbers go down to 1-3 %. The GPU seems to barely do anything based on the readings. The only way that I’ve found to increase the GPU utilization is to enable motion reprojection in OpenXR Tools, which increases it to a whopping 12 %. This is about as high as it gets.
In 2020 switching to VR increases GPU utilization instead of decreasing it. It goes from the usual 60 % or so to maybe 70 %. If needed, it can sometimes use 95 %.
Performance itself in 2024 is not quite as bad as I would think based on the readings. It tends to look more blurry than 2020 and airports such as KLAX and KJFK are unplayable due to horrible stuttering. Other than that, I’m getting a fairly smooth 30-45 FPS (plus reprojection) experience despite the low GPU utilization. This is of course still not acceptable, because I like big airports in big cities.
Is anyone else experiencing the same?
