You need to scroll in on the map until the resolution that you will be capturing goes from low to high, the squares on the right. Then use your left mouse button to move around and the right to select the areas you need.
Yes - this ist what i already understand .
I choose the Areas and then i click download . But after this there comes an Info that the Manual Cache must be Updated and the n the Filesize is only 1.2 MB . for my complete choosen Region .
Whats the Problem ? Normaly it must be GBs .
Thanks
To match the rolling cache you’d have to do the whole area in high, select the bit, move across, select more etc. You have several levels of detail in the picture from low, med and high. The rolling is high.
Ah ok ,
Means when i use Rolling Cache together with Manual Cache the in Manual Cache Region should not have Low Level choosen . Only Mid and High Level ? Right ?
Should the Cache Size from the Manual Cache the same as the Size from Rolling Cache ?
Thanks
No the size will differ as the defined regions are more specific. IE, when I did NY, I did low for about 100 miles, medium for 50 miles, then high on the main land masses, the city, Brooklyn and JFK etc. The improvement was spectacular.
Ok , i understand , but what i dont understand till now is why he reduces the Size afer downloading to 1.18 MB ??!?
What i do wrong ?
Zoom in closer for high textures. You can’t select the level of texture you have to zoom in for it and move around selecting multiple regions. The high level is shown on the right, the bigger the file sizes will be. Also the texture are highly optimised for the sim so the file sizes are going to be lower than you’d expect if comparing to say manually downloading ground texture in X-plane etc.
This post was recently made and might shed some light on your questions. From what I’ve noticed, the rolling cache allocates a user defined amount of space within your storage just for MSFS caching.
Hope this help … I have an 8GB rolling cache and 100GB manual cache , regardless of how much of that is used by map have a look at the file size in my system
Now look at how much it actually downloaded an put in manual cache … only 6.42MB
So currently, I can manually download up to 100GB of map data. (which could be cached for offline use), but also I can easily extend that when I need more space.
I would also to like to add this : my rolling cache, which is 8GB gradually will be filled when I visited places but it persist. means if you visit the same place and it is in the cache it will not download it again, unless you run out of space (8GB allocated to that) and then the oldest map will be deleted from cache file.
And one more point … currently , looks there is no way to delete or reduce manual cache file size from Sim, after it is created (you can increase it). The only way that I tested, was to delete the cache file manually from operating system after you removed all the map areas:
Now i make an test .
I choose an bigger Area with High Detail . The Sim needs 20 Minutes to download.
But after this it shows me again only 1.18 MB in the Manual Cache . Why ?!?!?
In this Screenshot you can see that the User have bigger Sizes of his Manual Cache Areas .
After the Download was complete on my Site the Handling in the Manual Cache Options was suddenly very very slow . Till i delete my Area . Then it goes faster again .
Here u can see the the Rolling Cache is used not the Manual Cache .
But for this Region i have configured an Manual Cache .
Same happened to me. I tried to cache Cape Town in highest resolution, download took about 10 minutes and was a few GB according to network monitor. But after that it showed only 800 KB, not even one MB.
I think it is bugged and I will leave it for now.
Just to, add some more confusion, I painstakingly created a pre-cache of a large city, and then flew over it.
I used a performance monitor to check what files were being accessed. The manual cache was never touched. It was still, reading and writing the Rolling cache .
Perhaps the manual cache is only accessed if the Rolling Cache or internet is inadequate !
I just wanted to keep local copy of an area that I fly over often.
Good point @DizzyBasket7278 and @MichaelBGL, Same here for me.
But we might need to stop steaming first either with disabling rolling cache or not being online? I don’t have time to test it now, but if you did, please share here. Thanks.
I downloaded my area but problem is the frame rates went to 1 or 2 had to wait for ages to click in the box and delete it from system then the computer came good again. My cache was also set to 100gb. I will be waiting to do this again once ms update.
Manual Cache simply doesn’t work.
From what I can tell, your cache size is not large enough.
You have almost 18gb used up and it looks like there’s another location you have cached that I cannot see.
You only allowed 20gb to your Maximum Overall Cache Size.
I’d bet the new region you are trying to cache will produce a file size that is larger than you have made available. Modify your cache size.
