Hi, I have tried to modify my cache size several times. I cant make it work. I have 923 GB available space and even only 20GB increase cant be done. I know it can take some time, but a couple of hours!
Please have the answer lol.
Forget manual cache, it only works for photogrammetry citiesâŠ
I can also attest to this. It doesnât make any sense to me. For example I have created a manual cache and created a custom region for NYC. I select the surrounding area of Manhattan in LOW, and them towards the middle I select MEDIUM and then for Manhattan I select every little tile (yes it took more than an hour!) as HIGH. The more regions I have the more laggy and unresponsive everything is. It makes creating a region extremely slow. But anyways, getting back to my problem. The downloaded NYC region that I have just created takes about 10-20 minutes to download, however the file size is very small. It seems like manual cache is not working like how it should and is quite buggy at the moment. I have a 512GB cache set for the manual cache and 64GB for my rolling. Seems like the larger your cache file, the more slow and unresponsive your system gets.
Manual cache seems to have no effect at all, whether its on or off. Photogrammetry data is still not being downloaded or stored either. I have tested with NYC several times. As Iâm flying, the buildings are still unrendered and be downloading as I fly closer. Looks absolutely terrible.
Yep, but my problem is, I can neither increase my manual nor my rolling cache. It is stuck at 4 GB.
I donât think you can increase the rolling cache without deleting it and creating a new one. You can with manual cache, but you canât decrease.
Ok, thanks. I will give it a go.
Manual cache not working
Well, have to wait till later then. Thanks for Your reply.
Just one more. It says:" Set a location for rolling cache on your hard drive". Does that mean i cannot use a ssd? Thats were i have created cache path for both rolling and manual.
Of course you can use SSD.
Fine, thanks. Just trying to eleminate possible reasons for not beeing able to increase cache limits. Have a nice week-end out there. Am enjoying.
Where should the manual cache and the rolling cache be relative to the FS 2020 install? For size reasons, my FS 2020 package is on a G: non-system Samsung EVO 970 Plus NVMe SSD. In the General options, it looks like both my rolling cache and the intended location for a manual cache are on my C: system KIOXA NVMe SSD, which has lower specs, particularly in random read/write compared to the Samsung drive. Even though I changed the Win10 settings to put new apps on the Samsung drive before ever downloading FS 2020, the setup seemed to want to install to the C: drive and it ended up putting the rolling cache (and would put the manual cache) there under appdata. If there is no reason not to, Iâd like to have everything about FS on my Samsung SSD. It has ~3x better random read/write speed than my system drive.
You can manually choose and change the location of both rolling and manual cache in the FS menu.
Best to put it on the fastest disk/ssd
I could be wrong of course but using the manual cache seemed to interfere with what I had previously accumulated in my rolling cache. For example photogammetry areas I had flown over seemed to not be loading after I created a manual cache in the same area.
I mean, it does. Itâs worked for me. Itâs the only way I was able to have New York City show up properly.
Strange, I tried to cache Seattle, and 10 Gigs manual cache was not enough.
I increased the file size to 25 Gigs, resumed downloading, and it finally download at 21 Gigs. Will test performance tonight once my kids let me use my PC after their regular Fortnite battle.
I donât get it. What folder is this in? I canât see your address path in the top window. Is this in the C-drive, program files x64?
Cache is in âC:\Users<User Directory>\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCacheâ. There will be two large cache files in here - âMANUALCACHE.CCCâ and âROLLINGCACHE.CCCâ, each of which will be the maximum size you specified in the settings.
After the latest update, (1.8) my rolling cache folder was deleted and rolling cache was âoffâ. I saw a smoother sim frame rate?
At 200 Mb internet speed, is my streaming speed faster than my Pcie drive? At 2200 Mb/s (Pcie) obviously it isnât. But I question the use of rolling cache? Is it really of any use if you have a good broadband?
Without testing this out, I believe they only intended us to use rolling cache if we have slow or inconsistent internet speeds. Also switching from streaming to Cache may cause stutter? Just my twopenneth?
Also, constantly writing and reading from A Pcie drive will cause more wear?
I suppose all this is down to individual preference.
After the latest update, (1.8) the sim automatically started to update the manual cash (100G) Currently I lost 1 hour waiting for this update. And I wonder, why the sim started to update the manual file only when I decided to enter the page from the menu but not during the patch installation?
