This fix applies to scenery only, primarily airports and points of interest (POIs). It does not affect the global terrain. This will be clarified in the final release notes for SU5.

In the final SU5 release notes maybe remove the word “water” that is confusing. Thank you for the follow-up !

It begs the question, do the developers know what is causing the black lines in water, and do they have a possible fix in the works?

I may be mistaken, but I think these lines may correspond to various airspace delimitations? Like a map element projected on the water.

Do they though? Has that ever been stated or claimed in a dev stream or post?

Rather, it seems to me to be the same terrain discontinuity issue going back to MSFS 2020 and the way the sim’s terrain tile system works. I’ve seen these lines in the middle of the ocean on daylight long hauls, far away from any apparent controlled airspace.

Just an observation I’ve made when flying over the Caribbean, an uncanny correspondence of what I see on my Jepp charts to what I see down below on the water. Not at all anything official. Cheers!
