Have just completed my new gaming build with the new RTX 3080 (paired with Intel i9-10850K) but I am slightly disappointed with the FPS I get.
For example on the ground at KLAX in the A320 neo I get around 20 fps on Ultra at 3440x1440. Lowering the graphics settings does not help that much, with High settings I get around 24 fps.
Is this what I should expect in terms of fps?
Any suggestions on what I should do to improve the sim performance?
No that’s not normal with the new cards, founders edition 3080?
What render scaling you running, try values 100-120, see if that helps, leave everything else on Ultra, if RS is set to 200 it’s like running in 8k as you already running at 4k, card should handle it from the YouTube benchmarks I’ve seen, but who knows about the credibility of such videos.
I am running render scaling at 100. I got the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 10GB GAMING X TRIO card.
Ok that’s definitely not normal
Any background apps running any other demanding processes
Do you have AI traffic on ?
If yes turn it off it’s a FPS killer
I would turn the developer mode on and see what is limiting you, as the CPU plays also quite a role in the overall FPS.
You do have a solid one, however what I’ve personally experienced is that in absence of a good cooling system, the CPU gets throttled to low clocks and this drops the FPS dramatically.
To verify this is not happening you can just have a look at the task manager (performance tab) before and during using the simulator
I had it on AI. Setting it to real time improves fps quite a bit. Not I get around 28 fps at Ultra,
Seems to be fixed at around 4.8GHz. For cooling I am using the Lian Li GALAHAD 360mm AIO and it seems to keep the CPU at around 60 degrees C.
This is really bizarre. And what does dev mode say?
I have a 3080 which is an Asus card paired with a 10900k.
I also get around 25-30fps on ultra at 1080p. I think this is perfectly normal as it’s CPU bound not GPU.
Not much you can do at the moment unfortunately.
It says that I am limited by main thread…
Ok good to know that I am not the only one.
Yup, so your GPU is not the problem
Try disabling AI and multiplayer traffic. That normally takes quite a hit on 1 CPU thread.
of course the GPU is the prob if it runs only @ 44% …
Set everything to Ultra but keep the LOD sliders at 100 to reduce the CPU load.
There’s nothing else to do for now, we need to wait for DX12 in order to have a decent usage of multicore CPUs. You are currently “main thread limited” and a faster GPU does not help.
Can you provide the info on the other components?
RAM
SSD or NVME
I run this setup and have even with rendering 200 around 40 to 60 FPS
CPU Ryzen 5 3600
RAM 32GB 3600
MSI X570 Gaming plus
NVME Corsair MP 600 (that was an improvement this drive is fast)
Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC
3 Monitors
32" Center 2560 x 1080
left and right 24.5" 1920 x 1080
Use all 3 Monitors run 5120 x 1080
Thats a screenshot 2 days ago. 55FPS
From personal tests there is not much FPS difference between SSD and NVME, the difference can be seen in the loading times, from launch to fly - NVME about 7-8 seconds quicker.
Im having issues with a gigabyte 3080 as well. It feels like the game doesnt want to utilize it or the cpu properly. Im playing at 1080p currently and getting under 50% gpu usage usually, and less than 40 fps (depending on the plane i fly ofc).
I find it really weird that there are circumstances where the GPU is working correctly, and gpu usage goes way up to 99% (and fps with it, 70+) and then pretty much every other scenario it doesnt want to go over around 45% and around 30 fps.
And those numbers are valid when flying airliners or turboprops, with smaller aircraft and less electronics = better framerate.
For example zlin cub, 50-60% gpu usage and around 55-60 fps, inside view seems to actually increase framerate by a little, usage stayed the same inside and outside.
A320, 37% usage inside, 60% outside. 34 fps inside, 49 fps outside.
In both cases 2 cpu threads spike around 80-90% for a time but then goes back to around 50% like the rest of the threads.
I would otherwise understand the bottlenecking here, but why is nothing staying at 100%? everything seems to be running at half the performance it actually should be able to perform.
