Last night I was flying over Egypt on a route that I regularly fly, and I’m very familiar with the usual MSFS Bing data in this region witch is old and missing a lot of new roads including Egypt’s new capital project.
Suddenly I started to notice new imagery loading in the sim containing very new roads and cities.
But after restarting MSFS all this new imagery disappeared and back to old Bing maps.
I was using rolling cache but I deleted it and opened it again, I thought this way if imagery is really updated this was MSFS will download the new data,
but it went back to old imagery
How about
It may be that when flying at night it was confused with a stage reload.
In some approximations (I don’t know why this happens)
The city disappears for a second and slowly reloads in areas.
(For me specifically, arriving in Dubai OMDB but I know of more people what happens in more areas)
This is very interesting! I am also noticing this. Some days new imagery shows up and some days the old one! I have tried deleting the cache but that doesn’t do anything! The problem with the new imagery is that it is not infinite and you can see it pop out/in at the distance! Not sure what’s happening but this can really mess up the airport sceneries! On the other hand I would love a new Bing map …
By the way I am noticing this only in the days where it’s raining at the original airport or that could be coincidental …
This happened to me too. I recently flew over a local town and noticed new housing estate areas etc. Today, when I flew over the same town, the new improvements have disappeared.
I also see switching between two different imageries every few hours, one the original imagery and one of later date.
For the UK, and perhaps elsewhere, there are several major issues with the later imagery.
For much of the UK the new imagery has a much less realistic colour balance with a mixture of dark greens and brown landscapes predominating.
2.The above also means that the colour matched polygons added to airfields to mask unwanted baked in ground features now are obviously mismatched.
The new imagery is offset slightly from the old. This is noticeable with objects and ground features at addon airfields not aligning with the imagery.
The new imagery seems to have many more baked in aircraft and other object images within airfield boundaries that will need attention from scenery designers.
For me , it seems as though the differences introduced by the new imagery will require a lot of effort from scenery developers and will provide a less realistic overall colour balance, the latter being one of the major advantages of MSFS to date.
If you look at these areas in Bing Maps (i.e. in a browser), do you see the “newer” images or the “older”? It sounds like at least two sets of imagery are stored on servers in the cloud, and that some process that delivers the imagery to MSFS is picking the “wrong” set for some reason. It might be that the imagery is being switched between source servers while routine server maintenance is being conducted, which would explain the short time-periods that the “new” imagery is being seen. Once completed, the process reverts back to sourcing the imagery from the original server. Just a guess.
I see new imagery today! It seems like even the ground mesh may have been changed! The new imagery is a constant now since two days ago! Not sure what’s happening but that’s interesting! I fly in Iran and see the new imagery everywhere! The problem is, at the distance there is still the old imagery and old mesh so I see blocks of imagery creation at the distance which kind of kills the imagery. But I love it if new Bing data is being implemented with better mesh! And of course the new Imagery is creating some scenery issue with the 3rd party airports:
Sadly that’s not what I am seeing in Scotland. Colours have again changed and all the freeware airfields I have designed and made available through Flightsim.to are mismatched with the map. This is getting very frustrating.
yikes! That’s not good! The new Bing map corrects a lot of things but messes up airports. It also causes lots of pop in/ups compared to the old Bing map where everything is smooth!
