New PC Build Suggestions - High End For MSFS2024

I’m hoping to build my first some time this year if parts ever become available. I’m Terrified. :squinting_face_with_tongue::squinting_face_with_tongue::squinting_face_with_tongue:.

Which GPU did you get, a 5090?

I am trying to decide which 5090 to get. I’m worried about AIO versions and the MSI RTX 5090 Suprim Liquid SOC gets best ratings for cooling.

Great dual with Nielsen though in the other horse. Shame about the throttle sensor… Now I want a book about that perseverance! Sorry off topic again..

I have a Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC.
As for the RTX 5090 - I probably won’t get it. The price is insane, and the power consumption is just too much. I think my RTX 4090 will be more than enough for me.

That said, I might change my mind if I had a VR headset. In that case, I might consider getting an RTX 5090, but I’d wait for the prices to drop first.

4090 is more than capable. Don’t get 5090 or 5080. I don’t think these are worth even the msrp price and definitely not what they are cost now. You have to be insane to pay this much. Also what you will not see anywhere is that you will most likely switch to TA anyway as DLSS makes gauges very blurry (even DLSS 4 does that. Tested myself) and the image ghosting is just insane. Worse than early era LCD screens.

Short edit, as I do not think this is being said often enough. Buying 5090 to use DLSS is paying 3k only to play in 1080p if using performance preset because let’s be honest this is what upscaling is.

I am now looking at 96Gb RAM:

Trident Z5 Neo RGB
DDR5-6000 CL28-36-36-96 1.35V
96GB (2x48GB)
AMD EXPO

I can use that RAM for multiple applications, not just MSFS2024.

I have read in various places that MSFS2024 can perform better with 96Gb RAM.

Would 96Gb as two sticks slow down the memory, e.g. by being above 64Gb even though still dual channel?

The higher the capacity of a single stick, the worse it usually overclocks. However, with CL28, you probably won’t need to tweak them.
Also, they should be A-die rather than M-die. Time will tell.
I’m waiting for the availability of those new G.Skill kits I mentioned earlier. I’ll be getting either 64GB or 96GB - still deciding

Thanks!

My PC shop is doing the build and checking compatibility etc. They advised:

Anything above 64GB even if its dual channel can experience slow down

I think they imply 4800. However on the spec sheet for that 96Gb RAM at EXPO setting its 6000 MT/s

FYI if you want hardware encryption on your NVMe then Samsung is a solid choice. I don’t know about Crucial, but Corsair don’t support it (careful of BS marketing claims). I have Bitlocker hardware encryption running on my Samsung 990 Pro with pretty much no slowdown/overhead - last test was 6715/6568 MB/s sequential read/write. I couldn’t get it running with AES256 which is claimed, but AES128 is good enough for me.

Good to know! Thanks

I received this reply from my computer shop doing the build about the

DDR5 RAM over 64GB, or at speeds over 6000MHZ tend to be a coin toss whether they run stable or not when EXPO/XMP is enabled. There is a good chance if you were to go with the 96GB kit that we would have to disable EXPO to get the system running properly.

I would personally recommend going with 64GB at 6000MHZ.

This is a Reddit post that talks about similar issues

https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/13v2zrd/gskill_trident_z5_neo_series_expo_unstable_after/

and

https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?threads/msi-mpg-x670e-carbon-expo-causing-problems.388626/

what do you think?

I have asked G.Skill if they stand by their advertised 6000Mhz speed with EXPO enabled and whether EXPO would need to be turned off if causing instability.

Linked thread was written two years ago, so I only read the first two lines. A lot has changed in that time - AGESA updates, BIOS improvements and memory compatibility fixes for motherboards and CPUs. Don’t waste your time reading old Reddit threads. Also, the topic is about a Gigabyte motherboard, not MSI.

Booting on PC based on the AMD platform takes much longer than on an Intel-based PC. This is not a bug and it is not an issue.

So you think that RAM at 96Gb with EXPO won’t be an issue?
I guess if it is I can go back to G.Skill or replace the RAM as 64Gb.

I’m not any sort of professional in terms of PC hardware but this statement makes no sense. EXPO and XMP are not settings that are ‘on’ or ‘off’.

If a system is unstable with a profile applied, it’s probably just a matter or reducing the speed incrementally until stability is achieved. That’s not the same as disabling anything.

EXPO for AMD is a pre-configured memory overclocking profile. Instead of manually tweaking settings - like memory frequency and timings - you simply enable the EXPO profile to apply these changes automatically.

As I already mentioned, don’t rely on outdated posts from Reddit. If you’re unsure, it’s best to visit the motherboard or RAM manufacturer’s forum and ask there. In any case, when I see that the memory manufacturer has stated that a module will work with a specific motherboard, I rely on that information.

What is your psu?

Updated just accidently dropped the bullet point

sounds like the best you can get…tier 1 components. Will burn a hole in your wallet tho
Personally i would choose an corsair case like the ICUE series. They are very complete. Own a 1000D and its really build like a rock
Extra fans for cooling in the case? That 5090 can warm a whole building so extra fans are not hurting anything

Yeah, I have a budget
