New PC issues

Hi all. I hope the collective mind on here can help me.

I have been using MSFS2024 since the start with very few issues. Just before Christmas I decided to build a new desktop PC.

It has an Asus Tuf B850 motherboard, Ryzen 7 9800X 3d CPU, Powercolor AMD Radeon RX7900 XTX GPU and 32gb of DDR5 RAM.

I have the free base version of the sim from the Xbox store game pass and is installed and starts on the system and I can access menus and make changes etc.

The problem I have is as soon as I click the Fly Now button it CTDs. I’ve tried various aircraft at different airports and the same thing happens. Sometimes the CTD is instant and other times it looks as if it’s starting (spining wheel thing goes round) then after 10-20 seconds it will CTD.

I have no add on scenery or aircraft at the moment. I have also reinstalled the sim to see if that resolved the problem but with no luck.

Please try to keep any technical jargon to baby talk if you can please. I’m 63 and tech left me behind sometime ago now.

Flight simming is the only gaming I use a the PC for apart from internet use so at the moment after spending the thick end of £2k on buiding my new system, I’m feeling pretty fed up.

If anyone can shed light the problem I will be very grateful.

My son uses the PC for on line gaming (Fortnite, Rainbow Siege 6 etc) with no problems so I know the PC works ok.

TIA Mark

Hi! Maybe this checklist can help to see if anything listed there could resolve the issue?

Changed a few settings (language and auto time) no luck. Thanks anyway

Make sure you update your BIOS. Have you set your memory to Expo 1?

You could install 2020 to test that it works. You could also disable the onboard GPU in the BIOS.

I understand about updating the BIOS, I’ve done that in the past. Can you explain about setting memory to Expo 1? In settings I have set the GPU to the Radeon by default. I’ve been trying to get it running for a good part of the day and have an early work start tomorrow so chilling now. I’ll update the BIOS at the weekend and disable on onboard GPU.

I was toying with the idea of putting MSFS 2020 on to see if that worked.

Thanks for your input

GPU to default will automatically disable/ignore onboard GPU.
XMP/Expo search this:
tuf b850 motherboard enable xmp/expo mode

You didn’t mention your power supply.
New also?
Wattage, even if you reused old.

EXPO is the memory profile for AMD chips. XMP for Intel chips. What type of memory did you buy for the MOBO? If you loaded Optimized Defaults in the BIOS, the memory profile will likely be set to Auto. You can usually get good tutorials on YT.

Never hurts to reseat the memory either.

I know absolutely nothing about gaming PC’s and technology so take this as a warning, but I was having strange CTDs all of a sudden and I found the MSFS 2024 crash report and ran it through GROK and GoogleAI and they both narrowed my problems down enough that I was able to make some changes and no more CTD’s.

MSFS 2024 crash reports help developers fix issues, usually found in the AppData\Local\Asobo\AsoboReport-Crash folder

One other thing you could try first is to run a stress test on the PC to see how it performs under load. Prime95 help me resolve a memory issue.

PSU is a Corsair rm100X brand new

And memory used was Kingston FURY Beast 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s DDR5 Memory Kit

Thanks to all those who have replied. Got an early start at work tomorrow so will try some of the suggestions at the weekend.

I really appreciate the help.

So, the safe route is to upgrade the BIOS, load Optimized Defaults, and set memory profile to Expo 1. That should be enough to get you going.

Hi all, Just an update to say I have the sim up and running now using a combination of all the inputs from you guys. I ran the crash log through ChatGPT and it seemed to indicate an issue with loading and suggested I lowered the graphics settings. I set them to low end system and it loaded and gradually upped it to high end and it seems to run ok. I also installed AMDs Adreniline software and run it from there and it ran ok from there. I also updated the BIOS and set the memory profile to EXPO1. I did these first but it still crashed, so it seems it was the graphics set to high.

I will fiddle more to see what I can up grapics wise i.e. ultra clouds. As a mainly fly the 320 from Fenix I think getting the clouds looking as good as possible is a must.

I also did the Prime95 stress test which one of you mentioned and it, as far as I know, passed them all. First time I have heard the fans speed up on my new system.

Thanks so much for all your help and input.

Happy new year to you and your families, regards, Mark
