New Photogrammetry Scenery for the UK

A super-fine quality scenery of Canterbury Uk has popped up on Flightsim.to Here’s a quick video with performance indicators. RTX 2060 Super with Intel i5-9600k and the performance is pretty good!

Whilst it does look very nice I don’t know what could be wrong at my end - I installed and tried to fly over today and I had the worst performance drop I’ve ever had in the sim :frowning:

Went from EGHB Maypole Airfield (a few miles north east) and headed south west to go over the city and cathedral. Started off at 24fps on the ground. As I got nearer it dropped to 20, then 16, then 10. Kept on going south and away from the city but it never recovered. Was down to 7 fps even when I was quite far away (near the south coast channel!). Like it wasn’t removing itself from memory, I don’t know. I only have a low LoD anyway but this wasn’t playing at all well.

Quit and removed it to test, and I’m right back to rock solid 30fps everywhere doing the same route and right from the ground at Maypole (apart from the irritating 1 to 4 second freezes that I get everywhere in the UK since SU9 + latest Nvidia drivers that Asobo and Nvidia needs to fix!) so it must be this PG causing it.

Weird thing is, even without this installed the area looks great. It looks like more than “only” auto-gen there already. I’m not sure but it looked pretty awesome to me without it. Was Canterbury included in the UK world update anyway?

Maybe that was the problem, that I had 2 PG cities stacked on top of each other?!

Baracus 250 - I’m having exactly the same problem as you. tried everything. No luck! :frowning:

I removed Community Folder & created one & only put the UK stuff in it. 55FPS over Canterbury!!! Something, possibly a library is causing a problem. I’ll try & narrow it down!

Are you running “seafront-sightseeing-vessels-uk-southeast” in your community Folder? Try disabling it & see if that helps??

Colours don’t match perfectly to the surrounding area but it’s very decent work. I have all his other cities as well.

It’s really hard to get good photogrammetry cities. A few guys pump them out one or two per day, but they’re all mediocre with bad resolution and without colour correction, so that they stand out like a sore thumb. Quantity over quality. Pity.

The stuff by AdianL, John Lovell and Thalixte is very good and this new guy (SebastianJ) has become one of my future favourites quickly. :slightly_smiling_face: glad to see some people put in so much effort!

I am indeed. Are you saying only the combo of Canterbury PG and the Vessels may be the problem?

Not sure how far around in NM the sim pre-loads stuff in, but I have the full Gatwick Ultra freeware which is huge (quite close) and I guess central London isn’t that far away where I have the Orbx city pack. I don’t have much more that far east in UK though.

I mean, I have a ton of fairly heavy stuff in other areas of the UK south coast (further west) all loaded and even with Vessels installed it’s not that bad to cripple it to 7fps. For example around Southampton / Isle of Wight (I think the SE Vessels pack reaches that far), I have a bunch of stuff like the Orbx Southampton airport which is a bit of a killer right next to the UK World Update PG of the city, with Portsmouth PG in view at same time, plus Bijan boats and GAIST running, plus many smaller airfield mods in close proximity — and I do get less frames there but not down to 7!

EDIT: sorry, I was rushing my reply as my son is hassling me but I meant to say thank you very much for your efforts to look into this so far! I will give it another go without Vessels tonight!

SW Vessels removed gives me 35-55 fps around Canterbury city & surrounding area!

I didn’t get around to trying tonight. Forgot about the new world update and downloading everything ate up my free time before bed. Will try tomorrow!!

OK, I’d be interested to see if you have same result!

Tested this and whilst slightly better without Vessels installed, it was still chugging badly.

Didn’t go as low as 7fps this time, but 10-17 was still unplayable. It seems like the city is not respecting or using the same LoD system as other addons and/or base content.

When I’m facing towards the city, even if I can’t see it, the little white spinning wheel was going (loading stuff? I thought that was only when writing to logbook but no one really seems to know and for sure it happens to me often around denser scenery/PG).

Turn to face away, level out and the wheel goes away, turn towards city again and it’s back for a good few minutes until it finally didn’t reappear.

But now I have another problem. I tried to remove it and test same situation again as 2 days ago to reconfirm but now even though I unticked it from Addons Linker it is STILL THERE! Even when I also delete Contents.xml.

This time around the white spinning circle kept on coming back every time I thought it had finally gone away. Had to go into Dev mode to stop it but my frame rate still tanking to 9 now! What a mess.

Can’t get my frame rate back now and I don’t know WHAT to do! :frowning:

EDIT: gonna try deleting scenery index folder files.

EDIT 2: Didn’t help :frowning:
Manipulators and Main thread taking a battering even facing away now, but I HAVE REMOVED IT… I don’t know what is going on.

This is the PG Addon, right?

He is so close to producing some really excellent sceneries, building wise they are really good. What slightly spoils it for me is areas where there are lots of Google PG trees, they just don’t look very good. Is there a way we can exclude them and have Sim 3D trees instead I wonder?

By the way on performance I too find Canterbury causes a big hit just like Baracus but I dont have an issue with other sceneries such as Norwich. Its odd.

Mmm, the plot thickens. I seem to have mistakenly blamed Seafront Sim SW!! It appears to be another folder in my Community folder. I am slowly putting back the following until the problem occurs again.
Without these in my folder Canterbury Photogrammetry works fine, ie 30+ fps!

@Mattius88 are you the creator of this PG? One of the replies to you suggested it, but I didn’t think so!

Do you know if the last screenshot I posted is of the mod, or vanilla?

lol. Well I got that impression too hence my post but if not … whoops! Original post edited accordingly.

No, I’m not the creator just someone who methodically is trying to sort the problem! I’ve taken the above folders out of my Community folder but will slowly put them back in & try Canterbury PG again with each one. Just got waylaid by the stunning new Seattle scenery!! If you have any in the above list in your Community file try finding which one is the culprit! ??? :face_with_spiral_eyes:

To be fair I just want to get rid of Canterbury now, but I don’t know how. Never had this problem of mods remaining after I’ve deleted them. Very strange!! Any ideas?

Spent too much time testing and fiddling with the game recently. Just want to fly for fun for a while

EDIT: I don’t use rolling cache but is there a temporary hidden one I can delete? I tried deleted SceneryIndex folder contents already which changed nothing.

I haven’t tried the scenery but have never had any issues with any photogrammetry. I wonder if VRAM could be an issue? I remember lots of people complaining about Drzewiecki design’s Chicago Landmarks having appalling performance and it turned out those who it was working bad for had less than 8 Gb of VRAM, for people with more it was fine.

I have a 3090 with 24GB of VRAM and although I’ve not downloaded this one, I have lots of John Lovell’s and they don’t affect my fps at all.

You take the package out of your community folder, that gets rid of it. If its still showing up it must still be there, it cannot load textures etc that are not in the community folder unless they are copied into the official folder which would be very unusual.
