Bunch of new planes/helis to add to the CFD list from SU11. Not sure about NPS/SBS for these or any of the other SU11 vehicles.
Airbus A310-300
Bell model 407
Curtiss JN-4 Jenny
Douglas DC-3
DG Aviation DG-1001E neo
DG Aviation LS8-18
Grumman G-21A Goose
Guimbal Cabri G2
Another thing I’ve noticed is that with mods that enable CFD (e.g., the G36), the CFD visualization doesn’t work – maybe this is more on the mod makers’ ends than Asobo’s?This was me being dumb about mod installation – the visualization works on every CFD-enabled mod I’ve tried.
the visualizer can be turned on for every aircraft, but if they are actually using the CFD simulation for the flightmodel is another question, so maybe I should unlist the airplanes until we get a better confirmation?
Edit: not true, visualizer only works for aircraft with activated CFD from developer
But the Helicopters definitely using the CFD, otherwise they wouldn’t fly
You sure? At least on my end it won’t work (via the new toggle) for any of the older planes unless they were on the list or had the correct mod installed – you don’t have to use dev mode to see the visualizations anymore.
Ah no sorry, I rewatched the feature discovery series, they said:
‘‘the CFD will be available for aircraft creators, any existing aircraft using the modern flightmodel can be easily ported over without any additional tweaking’’
So the CFD visualization tool should only work for aircraft which got CFD activated by the developer.
I think this is just the normal wing flex.
But it’s still possible that it has softbody simulation. Sadly so far no developer mentioned this feature besides Asobo for the Cessna.
I played a little with CFD visualization this weekend and found some interesting things. If you turn on the CFD visualization in the Assistances menu, it will show only to those planes in which it was enabled by default by the developer.
If you go to the developer mode in the game and open the CFD menu, it gives you the options of playing with CFD in general. For those planes without CFD, you can actually turn it on in this menu, which enables you to visualize, and then there is another option that allows you to feed that CFD simulation into the flight model. It means, you can add CFD simulation to any plane of the game (except those that are encrypted), even though the developer may not have enabled it by default. You can definitely tell there’s a change to the airplane behavior, but as I’m not a professional pilot, I can’t tell it is more or less realistic. It is cool to play with, though.
I heard from a Fenix team member on their Discord that the Fenix uses certain elements of the CFD as well. Most probably the ground effect simulation. It should be added to the list then right?
Ok I listed it for now, it’s just weird they don’t list it as an feature anywhere.
I don’t own the plane, but maybe somebody else from the Forum can confirm it later on.
I own the Fenix A320 and checked here on my side. Here are my findings:
CFD visualization can’t be enabled without being in the Dev menu. Opening the Assistance options shows me a “Volocopter” profile, and doesn’t allow me to change anything (different from any other plane I’ve seen). Using the keyboard binding to toggle CFD also doesn’t do anything.
Opening the CFD menu from the developer options, it shows me the CFD simulation off by default. In my observations with other planes with confirmation that support / doesn’t support CFD simulation, if this is off by default, then it means it doesn’t use CFD simulation and wasn’t developed specifically for this use case.
I’m not saying that Fenix is lying when they say their simulation uses certain aspects of CFD, they know their product much better than I can. But maybe they meant something different.
Thank you very much for your research! I unlisted the Fenix, as you said maybe they meant something different, ‘‘using certain elements of the CFD’’ can actually mean anything. As long as they don’t confirm full CFD integration I wont list them here.
