True true.
I always try to be nice and constructive when dealing with developers. They are after all making the models that I want to fly, and want them to continue doing so, not make them irritated and annoyed with their customers.
I do a lot of painting for the community myself, and usually people are positive about what I do, and when I make mistakes (which I do), I donât mind people pointing out my mistakes. However, you wonât believe the tone some people use when venting their unhappiness. I have been on the point of quitting completely on a few occasions because of this. So I feel that being polite and constructiuve works best in the end.
But at the same time I agree that this P-51 sounds awful. And as an additional problem, when on the ground, the throttle is always stuck at 55in MP, so taking off is impossible. So Iâve parked at the back of my hangar for now, and I am hoping for an update soon.

Donât get me wrong - I have bought all from AH up till now, but it is just tragic that they ruin the excellent modelled aircraft with that weak sound.
Hi been try to get this but canât get marketplace on xbox series x as greyed out do you no how to fix it
I too really enjoy their spitfire just for the model alone! Sound is lackluster as well but acceptable. Especially in high rpm dives. Itâs not a âbadâ company perse but they really need to work on how they address warranted criticism.
This is exactly the arrogance I am talking about. I am far more comfortable doing business with developers like Just Flight, PMDG and DC Designs. Even if it is just for the amount of âa few cups of coffeeâ
Let me put it this way: Your P51 model is superb! The work youâve put in really shines through.
It is such a shame the sound isnât following the quality set by your model, flight dynamics and systems simulation.
After I purchased AHâs F3F-2, I decided to wait this one out. Glad I waited. To be honest, I was expecting there to be sound issues. Not just a problem with AH, but IFTâs F-35 sounds are a joke. Seems most devs just donât care to do the sounds correctly. Itâs pitiful. And for their lack of concern, my wallet stays closed.
My guess is no, but itâs just a guess. The fact that itâs a single file leads me to believe it was compiled and probably has all sorts of references to the aircraft itself. This is why I wish it had legacy sounds and then you could take an alternate file and simply rename it.
It looks beautiful! Iâll be keeping my eye on future updates for it.
There is nothing that sounds like a Merlin. Thanks for sharing⊠great video!
Regarding the sounds, I did video clips of the Asobo P-51 and AH P-51 and compared them this Kermit Weeks cockpit video posted above:
Neither sim P-51 sounded just like the real thing, but the Asobo Mustang was more similar on the low-end of the audio spectrum. Iâm pretty sure that just accentuating the bass would give a better impression for both the AH Mustang and the F3F-2.
That said, though, having been lucky enough in my journalism days to spend some time in the cockpits of a few military planes in flight, all the armchair experts judging aircraft audio based on YouTube videos are missing a major aspect of real-life cockpit audio that is not captured by GoPros or microphones in cockpits: Real pilots in real planes, especially warbirds, are always wearing headsets. And those headsets isolate a lot of sound from the engine and environment. If youâre judging how a plane should sound when youâre actually flying it from cockpit recordings, youâre missing a big part of the audio picture.
Also, WWise has become the new buzzword for the âfeature bulletâ crowd who look for things to complain about online to try to impress others with their expertise. If they can open the canopy and the sound doesnât change, they post âOMG it doesnât have WWise, itâs unlistenableâ no matter how good or bad the sound actually is with the canopy closed (which is, yâknow, host most planes are flownâŠ). WWise can add a depth of sound features not found in standard audio in MSFS, but (1) WWise doesnât guarantee that sound is any better, and (2) you can do great audio without it, though it might miss a few bells and whistles.
I actually did open the canopy at about 8,000 feet in a Skywarriors T-34B once (I was getting really queasy from practicing dogfighting with another T-34) and even with the engine in front of me and the air whipping by at 170 mph, it wasnât loud. Because headset. The Continental in a T-34 is no Merlin, but it was plenty loud in the (VHS, it was the 90âs!) cockpit recording I have.
Anyway, Iâm not saying the AH planes canât use some tweaks in the audio department. I think balancing to add a bit more bass would be helpful and would probably satisfy a lot of the complaints. Interestingly, I though the AH P-51 sounded great on my sim PC (which has a small, cheapo subwoofer) and in headphones, but when I did the comparison, I did it on my video editing PC which is lighter on bass, and I could see how people thought it was a bit weak for a Merlin.
Excellent commentary. The only rationale I can think of for exaggerated sounds is that in a sim, the sound can stand in for other sensations, like vibrations and buffeting and such, that youâd feel in the airplane but canât at your desk. So itâs partly about authenticity but partly about verisimilitude. A2A was always good (and never got enough credit) for making sounds part of the experience - the atmosphere of the airplane, so to speak. I remember turning off the headset option in their T-6. Iâd absolutely have worn a headset in the real thing but the louder sounds helped me âfeelâ the airplane.
Havenât tried the recent AH airplanes so I canât comment on the sounds. But if theyâre aiming for a headset effect, maybe in some future update they could make it switchable.
Just for grins I fired up a P51-15 in another simulator I like to use, IL-2. Checked the sound inside and outside⊠none of them sound like the âreal deal.â If I feel like giving a warbird a go I usually fly in IL-2 anyway, so for me the discussion is academic.
Another poster mentioned the sounds in the AH C140. So⊠of course I had to fly some patterns to check out the sound. Amazingly, I hadnât noticed how âoffâ the sound is from the cockpit. From the external camera, I think the little airplane sounds sweet as can be. But inside is a different story. Incredibly loud (maybe this is accurate without hearing protection?) and very resonant⊠especially at lower throttle openings.
I guess I had not really noticed the sound discrepancy from external to cockpit before, because I was having so much fun flying the C140. Itâs far and away the best GA taildragger in the sim. For that reason Iâd be tempted to give the P-51 a go⊠AH seems to have mastered the MSFS SDK for modelling taildraggers. Maybe the sound wonât matter as much if Iâm having a blast flying the airplane! (Such is the case with the C140.)
Good discussion here⊠always great to hear the various opinions prior to making a purchase of a third-party aircraft.
Some excellent points. It really is the bass that is lacking. Wearing a headset/helmet would muffle the cockpit engine sound and internal sounds. However, the higher frequencies outside the headset would be attenuated, and this is not the case with the AH P51 where the sounds are really quite tinny. If you cut through that, the cadence of the Merlin is discernable. Just more bass and ârumbleâ should fix it.
Perhaps my earlier analogies were a bit harsh.
perfect model visualization + same ugly multiangle prop circle as in spitfire, why?

Is the altimeter calibrated correctly ? 3 needle type altimeter normally show 100/1K/10K . This one seems to show 10/100/1000 . Sorry if i have interpreted it wrong. Also when i trim nose up with my joystick hat switch the aircraft trims correctly but the trim wheel in the cockpit moves the wrong way. Like the aircraft very much and is amazing in VR. Anyone else seeing these issues?
A very good review of the plane has been done by âInto the Blue Simulationsâ on YouTube, check it out!
