Looks to be the usual MK standard we’ve come to expect. I think they said this will be the last release for both sims?
Last release for Fs2020? End of my own MK era then. Any source? I was so looking forward to FLL and the mysterious other one (MIA/MCO?).
Why would they stop producing scenery for MSFS 2024?
I could be wrong, but I thought MK were one of several devs who’ve already announced their final FS2020 projects. Might be somebody else, though.
I did a quick search and didn’t find anything that suggests FS2020 will be dropped from MK’s roadmap, but ChatGPT said this:
What to Expect for MSFS 2020 Users
Here is the likely scenario for future MK-Studios releases:
- No Native 2020 Version? There is a growing possibility that these upcoming major hubs will be built for MSFS 2024 first, with a 2020 version only if it doesn’t require a complete rework.
- Feature Gaps: Even if a 2020 version is released, it will likely lack the advanced ground tech, improved night lighting, and specialized 2024-only optimizations.
- Marketplace Restrictions: Some future updates or sceneries may be marked as “MSFS 2024 only” on the Microsoft Marketplace, even if a legacy version exists elsewhere.
So I’m hopeful that MK will continue to release airports for FS2020, even if they won’t get updates post-release. I already lost iniBuilds, but that isn’t such a hard pill to swallow.
I really do have to say, airports are literally the easiest thing to develop for MSFS (maybe liveries, but with the DDS’s being switched to KTX2 it is totally understandable why devs find it annoying to paint both). And Asobo still figured out how to ruin cross-compatibility between 2020 and 2024.
Oh I misread OPs comment. I read it as if they were stopping development for both sims (as in, not developing for 2020 nor 2024). Now I understand it as all projects moving forward will be 2024 only. That makes more sense.
At this point, it makes sense since an estimated 84% of product purchases are now for FS2024 (that figure was a couple of months ago now, and will only increase). I jumped to 2024 when they released SU3 and it’s been absolutely rock solid for me since. Incidentally, I hopped back to 2020 briefly — to look at a price in that sim’s marketplace — and decided to have a play to see if there was an obvious regression. All 2020’s flaws came flooding back, despite the new sim not being without a few (admittedly now minor) issues.
Since I highly doubt Orbx will be adding the new concourse to their release any time soon (especially the 2020 version), looks like I’m spending some more money!
They’ll do FLL/MIA, Verticalsim will do MCO
Florida’s getting a bit confusing at the moment, with a sudden rush to develop its last remaining major airports. What now happens to Vert’s KFLL? Has there been communication between MK and Vert?
If I’m not mistaken, Vert canceled their FLL. Verticalsim Cancels Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport - FSElite
This is where it gets confusing… because he cancelled it… then reinstated it! Has he cancelled it again? I can’t keep up! He certainly resurrected the project AFTER that May 2025 FSElite article.
MK and Vert are both great devs but MK are quicker in development (being a team rather than just one person) so I’d prefer MK to do KFLL, which frees Vert up for other projects.
I’m not seeing a release for 2020 yet.
I’ve just scanned through their recent social media posts and can’t find any indication a 2020 release is planned, but perhaps I’ve missed it.
In fact, from their Discord just minutes ago:
I checked numerous stores and none of them have EYW for FS2020. Is it official – there is no 2020 version of this one? And if that’s the case, what about MIA and FLL?
I used to fly a lot to KEYW. But the ugly water mask Just makes me sad. I hope there’ll be an update to that soon.
While I’m not sure if a 2020 version is planned, it is the norm these days to release the 2024 native first, and for the original sim later (if demand is sufficient).
This freeware really helps to enhance Key West. And it is updated regularly, so I can well imagine that there will also be a compatibility update for MK Studios (if necessary).
Nicely done FBO with interior:
But when using the Showcase camera to explore this FBO’s interior, bumps you to the roof if you try to explore this FBO interior so have to use Dev Mode and the developer camera to get this shot:
No such problems at the terminal airside though!
Perhaps I’m painting with too broad a brush, but isn’t it similar to how Windows evolved from a 32-bit OS to a 64-bit OS, meaning that 32-bit software (analogous to FS2020 models) can run on 64-bit Windows (analogous to FS2024) but 64-bit software (analogous to native FS2024 models) won’t run on 32-bit Windows (i.e FS2020?)
