New Release: EA-7 Edgley Optica (ORBX)

JF confirmed some time ago the arrow is submitted to Asobo. Not sure if it will be available on xbox but it will be on marketplace for sure.

I read that tweet from JF this weekend and immediately put any plans on future Carenado purchases on hold. The P-28R looks so great and is highly praised. But back to the EA-7 …

… which I would highly recommend for sightseeing purposes. It’s unusual but the visibility is great. And it’s the right amount of challenge to fly. That GNS530 is a pain in the behind though after using the garmin pilot in the Husky. But the EA-7 is a much older plane than one would think from its looks. So that GNS530 is fitting.

Bought it. I want something for sightseeing and something slow which is not helicopter. This looks perfect for that. I love GNS530 so no problems here.

A GNS530 in itself is ok. But after having used the garmin touch in the Husky for a few days/flights with it’s drag&drop map and the touchscreen input the GNS530 is rather clunky to use.

And I bought the EA-7 for the same reason. To enjoy the scenery in. Shame the weather on the south island in New Zealand is to bad right now. The Orbx mesh turns that scenery into VFR heaven. The EA-7 and the NZ mesh cost less than 20€ combined. A steal for what you get in my opinion. Put the Husky on top and you could enjoy VFR flying down there for countless hours.

Yeah this one is good for sightseeing. Did you not get the Top Rudder ultralight? That one is also good for sightseeing

Thought about it but I’m not really a fan of the looks. I find that slim fuselage really weird looking and decided on the Orbx mesh for NZ instead. Until the EA-7 I was sightseeing in the Husky which also offers nice visibility (not nearly as good though as the EA-7).

The EA-7 is strange to land though since you’re sitting much lower than usual. I bounced my first landing quite a bit. :upside_down_face:

But coming back to the ‘problems’ noted here in the forum. I don’t think they exist or are a result of mis-setting the flight sim. Either the EA-7 doesn’t like the assists (I can only speak for a proper working addon in ‘true to life‘) or it is really allergic to the flight model not beeing set to ‘modern’. That switch should never be there on the Series X since there is no way to put vintage addons in anyway. It just makes troubleshooting the issues difficult for developers and is giving nice addons a bad rep.

Well im not trying to get in to a fight and I am thankfull for you advice. I have not found the settings for FSX/Legacy/Modern since Im not home for now. I expect that that is the solution. I wil post back if that is the solution. Again, im not trying to get in a discussion or whatever so thanks for your effort :small_airplane: :small_airplane:

Nope, i just don’t like it visually. I think this one and airbus H135 will be enough for sightseeing for now.

The settings for the flight model can be found under the general settings. It’s easy to switch away from ‘modern’ to ‘legacy’ as it may look like it’s an advanced setting because you can customize a lot. But it breaks all kind of things.

The other settings are in assistence …

And don’t forget to add the passenger (not copilot! - the copilot seems to sit very close to the roll axis so to counter the momentum from the pilot it must be one hell of a person) weight. It helped me quite a bit with stability around the roll axis.

The looks are certainly … unique. But I think one can get accustomed to it. And in the end it serves a certain function and it perfectly suited for it.

Will try when at home tonight. Looks like a page that I have not tried to adjust yet.

I have played around with those weight things, I even looked up what the single pilot counter weight should be! haha.

Thanks for your advice. I think that should solve it. Im excited to fly the plane.

Well, lets not argue about taste. I’m not saying it’s or anything, it’s just i don’t like it. Maybe later when it’s sale.

Hi BostonJeremy77 and CromUK (2nd post) - you are right, the flight model was it. I think when setting it up half a year ago didn’t chose ‘modern’ because the ‘realistic’ option was missing and hence it sounded like an arcade-mode to me… However, I never realized any problems or a too strange ‘wabbling’ behaviour with ‘legacy’ using the standard planes only… I am curious how the ‘modern’ profile will feel like
So far thank you very much for your help!

Well the tips have worked. It is flyable. I must say, it doesn’t fly well, but thats just my taste. It functions as it should. Thanks for the tips!

Glad to hear it‘s working. It has its special characteristics but I think a lot of the things we experience as strange might come from the unusual seating position. I find landing it for example takes some time getting used to.

Performancewise it behaves as I would expect according to what I read about it.

Hi, I think the following topic has not been upbrought yet:
When starting my Orbx Edgley manually, I can’t manage to get the transponder to work. In the checklist as well as in Orbx’ pdf-manual it is said that pressing ‘alt’ and ‘standby’ should do, but it won’t.
When I start the flight with the plane preconfigured, the transponder is on.

And, second - am I right that the Edgley glass-cockpit doesn’t allow any manual entries other than changing from map to menue and back? It is obviously not possible to enter or change a flight plan? Or did I oversee anything?

Thank you very much.
Hauke

I noticed the transponder issue too and reported it in the OrbX-Forum. Did not get a response yet though. Regarding the GNS I managed to input a direct-to but handling of the GNS is really finnacy.

Hi KrazyKraut1979, thank you for your answer.
I wrote an E-Mail to the ORBX-support concerning the transponder-topic today, and received - only 1 hour later!, obviously they don’t have off on Sundays - the following answer:
“Hello,
the transponder was broken by the MSFS SU5.
Work is in progress to fix it.”

Thank you for mailing them and relaying their response. We‘ll see a fix in time as it seems.
