New Release: EA-7 Edgley Optica (ORBX)

Is this working OK on Xbox? The data sheet on the marketplace seems incorrect.

I opened a thread in OrbX support forum to ask when the plane gets fixed for Xbox.

That’s a fairly recent addition to the flight_model.cfg, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was not an option when Orbx released the Optica.

no it’s not.

co-pilot does not show up and running the checklist automated stops at the fuel selection.

it also flies terribly.

2 notes before I thank you for your help and cooperation.

I did not buy from ORBX, I bought from microsoft from the marketplace via my xbox. I dont have discord and I dont want to deal with external parties. It appearantly take a lot of time and effort to get the planes ready for XBOX version. If it doesnt work I hope that either microsoft fixes the problem (because I wanted to have the airplane), or if microsoft cannot fix it I wish to get my money back. (I bought from MS to get a certain working product, if it doesnt work it is not my responsibility to figure it out myself with the developer)

Flight models? Legacy? Chaning what? Im (again) on XBOX, I have no acces to .cfg files. I have never seen FSX/Legacy stuff in my settings and certainly have never changed anything.

Thanks for you feedback and effort to help. I will try to find any legacy/modernd setting that I can find since that seems like the only thing that I could try. So I hope that that will work!

That’s not how things work. Microsoft doesn’t make this product, they sell it. So they won’t fix it. ORBX is the developer so all support goes through them. You don’t have access to CFG files but you DO have a Settings menu where you can change the Flight Model. So make some minimal effort to troubleshoot your issue according to the suggestions offered. Or don’t. It’s your choice. I have simply tried to assist and was then responded to with a thesis on vendor responsibility. You must be new to this, so I am just letting you know - nothing you buy on Marketplace will be supported beyond your ability to download it. That’s just how it works. All other problems - contact the developer.

So again, Settings/Flight Model. Make sure it’s set to Modern. Your XBox DOES have Settings within MSFS, I believe.

That is quite strange reading about the issues you are having with the EA-7 on the Series X. I also bought the plane and have no problems with it. I’m flying “true to life” and “modern”. I managed to start her up (finding the magnetos was a challenge) and she flew well.

I did not notice significant need for control input once the elevator trim was set. The roll axis is quite sensitive but once you put in an equally heavy (as the pilot) passenger it is quite ok. Fuel tanks need to be switched from time to time to avoid imbalance due to uneven consumption.

I did find that she, while initially climbing quickly, looses steam at 5+k feet. Unfortunately I flew into a valley north of LFNM that I could not outclimb. Trying to turn around caused a stall and crash. Other than the route needing careful planning next time I see very little issues.

Since the Xbox doesn’t allow cfg tinkering I wonder what is causing the issues for you.

In terms of losing steam at 5,000 feet - have you leaned the mixture past about 3,000?

I have a question for anyone who has bought this. How it compared to freeware one? The price is really good but still not sure if it’s worth it. So maybe anyone could do a comparison and tell me the differences?

I tried to but obviously haven’t mastered it yet. EGT gives you a hint about flying to rich. But how can you know what you’re generating the maximum amount of power?

It’s visually much nicer. And as far as I read the freeware one seems overpowered. The EA-7 is quite slow and the payware one reflects that nicely. And since it’s a plane to enjoy the eyecandy of the scenery why not enjoy it in an eye candy plane.

Besides it has some depth. I was suprised to find proper working circuit breakers (left side of the panel, it’s not even documented in the manual) in an addon for 10€.

So, essentially you begin leaning at about 3,000 feet. SLOWLY. Pull the mixture back and watch EGT - you should see it going up. Continue to lean as it goes up. At some point it will start going back down. STOP. Push it back to about where it was at its peak and just a little past that. So now you are rich of peak and should be at optimal performance. Mind you - you will need to readjust every few thousand feet. Once at cruise altitude and all other settings (prop, trim) are dialed in, do one final adjustment to check for it. You should be good.

Thanks for the tip, will try that tonight. Are there usually (in real life that is) curves of expected EGT vs. altitude etc. so one knows where the optimum is found? Or is that simply experience of the pilot?

Thanks. I guess i’ll get it then. I just love the dog in freeware one but i heard that guy going to make animals to be usable in other planes.
What is weird that it’s cheaper on marketplace than orbx store. Some strange business tactics there. Wouldn’t they want to sell it on their own website more?

EDIT: oh they reduced the price on website too.

The doggo would be the icing on the cake of the Orbx version indeed. Let’s hope the “copilot addon” makes it to the Xbox.

Regarding the price I wondered that too. Not to different though. Marketplace 9.99€ vs. Orbx 12.50€ (isn’t the reduced price there a sale?). Maybe MS is subsidizing a bit to get addons onto the marketplace?

Yes, every aircraft usually has performance charts with performance settings for various altitudes regarding mixture, prop settings, etc.

The developer or publisher decides on the pricing.
Some offer better prices through the ingame store, like Justsim. Therefore, they can not offer discounts, in case you already bought the same scenery for a different platform.

I guess, this could be a reason for different prices.

They reduced the price on the website today. I hope they’ll do the same with okavonga delta too.

Since I’m flying on Series X I don’t have much choice. But even if I would have, I would chose the marketplace. The hoops external installers made me jump though in my FSX/P3D days on PC are just annoying. Having everything in a single place is a godsend. Now if MS could get the Marketplace up to speed bringing some proper addons like the P-28R instead of that 737 …
