Your memory is better than mine and I lost my 3822 many years ago.
Was unable to fly at Woodvale due to the weather so made my only flight on the summer camp in (I think) 1977 or 1978. The camp was Waddington with a day trip to Scampton with Vulcans flying in and out whilst we were there. Only thing is I cannot remember where the AEF took place.
1980 - Kinloss and Newton. Think both were 5 AEF, not sure. One was, at least!
Had the 115D/E in FSX/P3D too and I really like it (preferred the -115D Heron) - far better than the G20/40 etc. I enjoyed messing about with that mini-GPS, as well, though I normally prefer “steam gauges”.
These fly over all the time - the whine of the engines doing formation aerobatics is too high in pitch for comfortable listening. Think they come from Cranwell. We certainly get the RAF King Airs over frequently enough.
I’ll buy this tomorrow, another good one for the Neofly hangar.
btw - the local airfield here has an ex-RCAF Chipmunk available for ‘experience’ flights @ £100 per 20 minutes, max 1 hour. I need to lose a little weight though, before I can have a go due to 100kg restriction (I’m 103) - what a day that will be!
~1997, had a couple of Experience Flights out of RAF Colerne in Bulldogs. 3 AEF I guess. I remember doing a lot of ‘practice flights’ in MS Flight Sim 5.1 in the days before my first Experience flight!
Another former Air Cadet here, got my first flight in the Tutor at RAF Wyton. Just found out about this. Very cool. Hopefully someone can make the old school RAF livery for it.
Doing my first flight in the Iris Tutor now. Anyone else notice that the artificial horizon is not quite calibrated to the real horizon? Try doing a 30 degree bank, and compare the instrument reading with the real horizon. I know David will fix this once he is aware of it. But what a joy to fly this in MSFS. It is an addictive aircraft.
I’ve picked the Tutor up but I have no real life experience so I’m curious what people who have flown the plane make of it.
For example seems to need a lot of rudder trim to keep straight ?
Also while stalls are simple and direct (no mushing, the nose drops and you know about it) I haven’t managed to spin the plane yet. Is there a trick to it ?
Reading the manual for the real life GPS unit that’s modeled the real thing is capable of quite a lot including low resolution monochrome maps but the implementation in the module is extremely simplistic - functionality all it can do is display some data and drive the CDI on the HSI and one of the modes on the DME display.
Closest parallel would be with the G100 option in the Just Flight Arrow and Warrior but with fewer display options.
The MSFS version is NOT spinning as easily and accurately as the version I tested for large websites in FSX a few years ago. However, we must remember that the MSFS flight dynamics are ever-evolving, whereas previous simulators had long-since stabilized. I’d put my money onto it being an Asobo issue in general right now, instead of an IRIS specific issue. That’s not a certainty, but it is my gut feeling.
Thank you
Their FSX Grob was spinning so realistic because they stole a FDE I had developed for another companies aerobatic aircraft.
For MSFS they apparently had to design a new FDM.
Since even some default MSFS are spinning nicely, I’m pretty sure that this is an IRIS and not an Asobo issue.
I actually found the opposite. When it spawned the rudder trim was out and it was not flying straight but setting it back to 0% according to the little wheel at your feet (not animated?) and straight and level was pretty easy.
Yeah it needs calibrating. Fine at straight and level but out by maybe 5 degrees or more in a standard turn.
Shame we were never told directly, we had to find out via a third party. In any event, that matter was resolved with the other company privately and the matter put to bed.
Thanx for the HU
I’ve tried to e-mail IRIS a few times back then, but never got a reply.
If the other 3rd party dev would have kept me in the loop, I would have never posted this issue openly in any forum.
The Corsair has this issue with its flaps, too. As I understand it, it’s an issue introduced by Asobo recently, and the developers don’t have any control over it.
