Are you doing the taxi with a crosswind?
OK, so I just purchased the Just Flight Arrow III stand alone (not the bundle) and as I expected it is a great flying plane. However not as expected the engine sound set is the WORST I have heard in 25 years of flight simming, never mind a high quality Airplane priced accordingly. I’m not saying this to be mean, like I said great plane, but the wind sounds almost completely drown out the engine sound both inside the plane and outside.
Let me explain. Inside it sounds like an air conditioner is running on high. You can hear the engine but it’s drowned out by the fan noise or wind noise what ever it’s supposed to be. Then on the exterior once you are in air and go to exterior camera from the back of the plane (which I sometimes like to do when I am looking at all the beautiful scenery) there is a loud ruffling noise like you hear when amateurs are making videos on a windy day. It completely drowns out the engine sound and I literally have to turn my sound down to nothing as it’s so annoying. Then when you pan the exterior camera around that low heavy thundering wind noise goes away but the normal wind noise still drowns out the engine sounds. When you do the 360 degree pan around the plane you can barely hear any difference in the engine sound. I’m not being dramatic it’s that bad. I will never fly this again, if this is the way it’s intended to sound. I even restarted my xbox a couple times in case it was some kind of loading issue.
I then went on you tube which all the videos are from a PC and the engine sounds there are night and day better than on my xbox. I also tried watching the Just Flights promotional video of the the plane but unfortunately they are playing music so you really can’t hear the engine sounds very well. It’s like music with an engine sound in the back ground. Why do simulator companies play music? Nobody wants to hear that, they want hear the plane. LOL
Anyway I’d be curious if others buy the Arrow III and hear their thoughts on the interior end exterior engine sounds in flight? I’m hoping I overlooked something because if kind of in disbelief how poor the engine sounds are when in flight. BTW all the other aircraft sounds are fine.
Having done an uninstall and reinstall and 2 more flights it didn’t make any difference. Also as I found out the annoying wind noises (if thats what they are supposed to be) does not have to be in flight. Simply run the plane and go to the default exterior rear view and it sounds like a thunderstorm is rolling in. Trying to taxi to the runway in this view is almost impossible unless you turn the volume off.
Besides the wind sounds being way to powerful they don’t sound realistic. When the wind is not making a thundering noise is sounds like a tire with a leak making that hissing noise. Just a complete immersion killer to me inside and outside the cockpit.
Something is up with your game then, because the aircraft does not sound like that for me. Sorry.
Jetwash are you on Xbox? Your tag says PC. My apologies if I wasn’t clear enough but as I mentioned I am on Xbox, and wondering if it’s a platform or Xbox issue. I know the plane sounds fine on PC.
I should also mention I have well over 100 planes, and this is the only one that sounds like this.
Any chance FSRealistic is injecting those sounds?
No, PC. Perhaps it’s a platform issue but I can’t see why that should be the case. There’d be an avalanche of complaints if it were, surely?
Well, I am on PC and own all JF Pipers. Indeed, the wind sound is very pronounced, certainly more than with any of the default aircraft. while I would love to have mine toned down quite a bit, I don’t think mine are as loud as in your description.
The wind sounds in the 310 are also very loud. Just for comparison, the Pipers are maybe just a tad louder than in the 310.
I’m not familiar with that program but I don’t have it.
Totally agree, I can hear the wind noise in my 310 more than I would like, but it’s much worse in the JF Arrow to the point I find it unflyable. It’s like wind noise with an engine running in the back ground, and completely unrealistic.
To me sound is as important as everything else in a Sim and maybe this annoyance might be made worse by my home theatre sound system.
It just came out 2 days ago, not a lot of time for people to complain about it. I can’t even find a video on YT with this plane on an xbox.
It won’t surprise you to know that the real Piper’s are loud, and the wind noise (as I remember it at least) is noticeable. Might I suggest turning on headphone simulation in the audio options.
I flew the PA28 series extensively during my training and I would have said that the JF simulation is pretty close to reality.
Does headphone simulation just change the effects of noise in the cockpit, or is this option for people that actually use gaming headphones?
I don’t own any headphones, I use a sonos sound bar for audio.
Somethings a miss Uncoiler, on my Xbox it sounds great. The fan bottom right makes a noise as you would expect and storm window you can hear wind when it’s opened. When shut it quietens the wind quite significantly. Have you checked your volume settings for engine, environment etc just to make sure nothings been changed?
I use headphones and don’t have the issues the OP has.
Headphone simulation has nothing to do with wearing actual headphones, it just simulates the use of virtual headphones I.e reduces ambient cockpit noise to a comfortable level. It doesn’t matter if you’re wearing headphones or not.
Thanks, I will need to check, not even sure the Xbox has the option?
Headphone simulation is in the Sounds category as far as I remember. This does reduce the volume of all ambient sounds inside the cockpit (engine sounds, wind noise, all button and switch sounds). ATC sounds aren’t affected by this, nor do all sounds in exterior or drone camera.
It does - I wish I could help re. the Turbo Arrow, but I only bought the Arrow III for Xbox. For what it’s worth, I think that sounds fantastic. The wind effect is noticeably louder than the defaults, but not to my mind excessive.
Good to know, I was actually only asking about the headphone simulation setting, I’m actually thinking about getting the Warrior version.
