Link to an Official POH for the Arrow IV…
I have the non turbo Arrow and the OBS knob seems to work fine.
You would probably still take the normal Arrow for low level aerobatics/scud running as you are going to blow the turbo switching from 100% throttle to 0% and back to 100% at low altitudes too often. For something like flying around Manhattan at street level between the buildings the standard Arrow would be a safer ride.
Why would you take any version of the Arrow for this?
This airplane is certified in the normal category. In the normal category all aerobatic maneuvers including spins are prohibited. The airplane is approved for day and night VFR/IFR operations when equipped in accordance with F.A.R. 91 or F.A.R 135.
Ha! I knew this will happen. I bought the turbo but still could not test it as my pc is in box while I relocate.
But I am also very sure that the aspirated arrow will end up collecting dust, I almost feel sorry for the little fellow
The only point I see in it now is if you are virtually paying rents using 3rd party apps for keeping track of flying costs.
Tha handling of the IV compared to the original is quite different. Subtle, but definitely not the same aircraft in a different wrapper. I have just an hour on it to date, but am enjoying it and pleased to have got it. Got 175knots GS out of it on a quick test, so can go places that would have needed a packed lunch in the standard version.
Really enjoying the extra performance in the Arrow IV.
As the Manuel states NOT certified for Icing and she really does not like it the performance drops off quite quickly. I have just been trying to play around and climb above a cloud layer at 8500 ft by targeting holes in the layer (Live Weather) to no avail, could not get her up there. Checked Metro Blue and sure enough at 750MB so approx 8000FT icing is present.
On the Plus Side descending down to warmer air, the icing effect disappeared much quicker than it used to before.
Be careful with the flight planning on those higher flights !!
Good point.
Still if you are flying low and slow in an Arrow and would get no benefit from the Turbo, the standard one is definitely a lot more bullet proof.
Sure, but in real life you often cannot easily swap them, so it’s not unrealistic for simmers to stick to one model if they like it better.
Trim the nose up a bit more for takeoff and hold a very small amount of backpressure on takeoff roll and it virtually eliminates the yaw and just floats off the runway Just have to find the sweet spot.
Would somebody kindly comment as to wether the cockpit focus (right mouse button) works in VR for these aircraft and the original for that matter. Had several aircraft recently from other developers that dson’t support this feature and it makes VR flying a real pain as VR resolution just isn’t quite high enough to read dials etc.
It seems strange that this question doesn’t get asked very often so I start worrying that it does work in all third party aircraft for everyone else but maybe it’s just me and my system.
Yes. Like yourself this is something I look for and this aircraft does indeed have this feature unlike some of the others!
Thanks for that. I just can’t afford to make another purchase only to find it’s not implemented. Great!
I just purchased her for a whopping 11€ and am heading directly to the Andes mountains to test!!
Funnily I just flew through Ethiopia with the naturally aspirated Arrow and it was a pain above 9000ft, so I absolutely see the point!
P.S. I was flying a bit, and compared to the non-turbo it has definitely got more power and you feel it right away. I am actually more interested about the exact difference between the Turbo III and IV
just got it and tried the turbo IV version (already have the non-turbo which I like)
strangely I struggled to get the IV off the ground! (maybe because I have never flown a turbo aircraft : ) )
but I had pitch/mixture/power forward - could see the boost button came on but it was struggling to get above 50 feet and didn’t really want to accelerate above 60-70kts in a gentle climb…
any tips appreciated?
What’s your trim? Pipers are touchy with it and require proper trim before takeoff.
don’t think its a trim issue (have T/O trim set to 0.2)- think its an engine setting issue…
tried the Turbo III and this was worse - even though had the throttle/mixture/prop forward and could seeing the boost light coming on the engine appeared not to be developing much power …could not see any boost control so assume there is none…
First, I find that for me trim of about 0.8-1.0 does best with the Arrow. Also, are you using the Modern flight model?
Has your engine been damaged?
At 50% o more it will affect it’s power
