New release: M'M Simulations Harstad Narvik ENEV (FS2020 & 2024)

Currently available from Simmarket and flightsim.to, with other stores following soon. Plenty of custom assets in this one, as there were in Hahn. I’d like to see custom airfield lighting from M’M next.

I usually buy M’M’s recent airports and this wasn’t an exception, mainly because of the location. Flying in the beautiful Norway is always a treat. And I’m not disappointed.

They finally dropped an official trailer… and I must say, I really like the look of this one!

A beautiful trailer. IMHO this is their best scenery so far (of those I own).

As part of my SimAtlas subscription, I was able to take a look at the airport. I’m not totally impressed, to be honest. Anyone who has already purchased airports from M’M Simulations and is satisfied with them will also be happy with Harstad, I’m sure. It’s certainly solid (to good) work. But I think there’s no question that Harstad/Narvik is a bit of a niche airport. With scenaries like this, developers have to give me reasons why I should definitely buy an airport. M’M Simulations doesn’t succeed in doing that.

I’m satisfied especially with their Izmir and Hahn. However, Harstad is more similar to Oulu, Samos and Kavala in my opinion. All of these airports lack a bit of character. As is often the case with M’M Simulations, everything seems too clean and sterile. The level of detail is good, but not outstanding for such a small airport. The biggest weakness, however, are the textures. If you imagine Harstad with ground textures from Flightbeam/Flytampa and building textures from Verticalsim, for example, you would immediately have a great scenery. There are really only three things that M’M Simulations would need to optimize: more authentic ground textures (with snow), more weathered and, ideally, photorealistic building and object textures, and a little more detail, especially on the airside (including more clutter).

That may sound a little too critical. Harstad is certainly a solid airport in many respects. But with such small airports, it is crucial for me that I can literally breathe the Norwegian air when I stand at the gate. This authenticity is what M’M Simulations lacks in order to keep up with the top developers.

I agree, M&M’s are not a top tier developer, they’ve always been missing something to belong there. I also agree that their Izmir is probably their best (I don’t own Hahn). In this case the location mainly was the main reason why I bought it and there is simply no better Narvik than this.

Unfortunately, the quality of the ground textures in particular varies a lot in M’M Simulations’ sceneries. I really like them in Izmir. In Harstad, they are too clean for my taste, and in Samos, they are much too low-resolution and simply look bad. As mentioned above, M’M Simulations really needs to work on its textures, then they would certainly have the potential of becoming one of the top developers in the future.

Now 25% off at Contrail.

I just got the airport in the M’M winter sale. I really like it, although I have to echo LukG’s comments about the snow effects not looking overly convincing (on the runway and taxiways, particularly). I’d also agree that the ground textures in places look a little clean, however they are (like Hahn) high-res. I’m do actually like the building textures, despite their not being as realistic as Flightbeam’s or Marcus Nyberg’s.

The terminal interior’s certainly above average (a fair bit of fine detail, plus the obligatory little animations) and night-lighting across the board is good. There’s some custom airside GSE, and while there’s not a great deal, it’s high-quality and just enough for a small airport in this part of the world. The landside — typically a weakness for M’M — is decent, featuring custom vehicles (some exclusive to to ENEV) and static people outside.

If they improved the snow effects on the runway, taxiways and apron, this would go from a very good airport to an excellent one, in my opinion. The surroundings are beautiful (as you might expect in the north of Norway in the middle of winter) and M’M have modelled a few bits a fair distance from the terminal.

No, it’s not a top-tier scenery but it’s very nice, and ticks almost all boxes for things we expect in a third-party airport in 2026. It’s worth the asking price in the current sale, if you’re looking to add another Norwegian destination to your Scandinavian collection.

Looking forward to their Stavanger and hoping they do Bodo.

Don’t know why but this one really hammers my system.
