Obviously they did but this product has had long range Nav in the past and I was just stating it would be a nice feature to have back. I don’t recall the observatory/sextant being functional either. I’m not trying to butcher the product as much as I’m trying to find the means to navigate a 15 hour flight in the MSFS and B314 current state.
Either as a part of this product or as an external tool it would be nice to have a DR plugin, something simple like a moving map but without the plane position and basic tools to draw your position, direction, speed, etc.
thanks for clear explanation of basic gyro.
Reading manual i get feeling that is already implemented to move gyro in 10deg range but it refer to Direction Finder Unit in Radio so i was wonder where to switch it to enable/disable GP Heading (which override heading).
I know another company which at least mentioned by highlight in manual that this highlighted feature not implemented in current model
If you are feeling up for a (time consuming) challenge…
I haven’t used this mod myself, but did do some Celestial Navigation with X-Plane a few years back. It’s very satisfying when you reach your planned destination after several hours over the ocean. Not for the faint of heart though.
I pointed out several errors in his review in the comments (and didn’t point out several more), and this is one: the mixture controls work fine. He was incorrect in saying that the master mixture in cockpit loads at cutoff but the engines are still running. It loads at full lean - exactly where you’d have it for low power operation (taxi) of such high compression piston engines - but not at cutoff. You can very simply move it back to cutoff and see the engines quit.
There are things here that need finishing, yes… But truly, this video was pretty poorly done.
For those wanting to cross the ocean on Celestial Navigation - look no further.
Discord channel full of people to help you out, too.
Should it matter where the mixture lever is set if the fuel tank selectors are set to off and the engines can still start? ITBS was specific when called that out. Clearly there’s something off with the fuel system if that’s possible.
Well it certainly should if he specified that the mixture was incorrectly implemented, and he was completely wrong about that, now shouldn’t it?
It should further matter, of course, that this “review” video has since been pulled, instead of the reviewer admitting he made a bunch of errors. Sad, to see such a lack of accountability. It cracks me up to see this kind of of content monetized too…
As far as the fuel selectors, there’s just a glitch where they load up in the wrong positions. Once operated, the correct behavior for each position seems to be implemented, so it seems pretty reasonable to assume it’s a simple bug that’ll be fixed.
with this mods + plane waterstrips i got some glitched water in Auckland
maybe we need to use only one. I prefer mods one cuz it have proper parking spots for study-level plane where you can start fly without engine running and mixture levers IDLE and fuel feed valves visually in OFF position.
i had a water ditch as well at southampton using the same mod with b314.
May be the mod not b314.
The state of the plane (engines running, ready for takeoff, cold and dark etc.) when pushing “Fly” is defined by a series of cfg files in the Aircraft folder. “Apron” is cold and dark and automatically loaded when a parking spot is selected as start position. If a runway is selected the sim loads up “Runway” to set the plane ready for takeoff.
If you want to start cold and dark on all water runways you could try copy-pasting the text in “Apron.cfg” into “Runway.cfg” (always back up your files etc.). I don’t have the Clipper so I can’t test it myself but perhaps it will work.
Thanks very much for the advice.
Think ill wait until update issued as im not comfortable modifying aircraft files with my level of knowledge.
Great! I thought I remembered seeing a solution for Celestial navigation.
Actually, this is a known issue on Asobo’s side, there’s not much Jerome can do about it as far as I know. The Boeing 247 has the same issues. I imagine what’s going on is, in perfect form, Asobo isn’t big on initializing animations properly, just as they aren’t big on catching things that cause crashes. Not being a programmer, I don’t know why. WIth respect to the uninitialized animations on startup, it might have something to do with the display engine and Asobo can’t change it currently.
I bought this addon this morning and the first thing I did is test out the mixture lever and fuel selectors. You’re right, it seems the position they load into is ON, but the graphical position does not match that state.
I could see that tripping up reviewers, but I agree, that rushed video about refunding the purchase doesn’t really help much.
Pretty exciting. I had the Pro version of this for P3D and it was a great aircraft - very challenging. But I will probably wait for further improvements before I get the MSFS version.
We are getting ready to release our first update for the PILOT’S Boeing B-314 for MSFS.
Most of the VC textures have been updated, here are a few shots showing that:
While most of the work was done to address feedback we have received about the VC textures, a lot of work has been done to improve the water handling of the B314. I want to thank Stearman948713 for his excellent changes to a few of the contact points, we have also completely altered the B-314’s behaviour while on the water, you will find that the flying boat is now much stable and heavy in the water, the water rudder is now also more effective.
I will make a short announcement here once v1.1 becomes available for those that have already purchased the Clipper.
Im starting to get very interested in this boat now will watch how the updates are recieved
Despite the initial reviews, that I think were in some way incomplete or at least uninformed I’m still 100% going to buy this once it is available at the Marketplace. (I only buy from the Marketplace).
Thanks a lot for these changes and hopefully for the drive to keep improving the 314, it is a wonderful aircraft with a lot of history and I’m sure many simmers will enjoy it.
