Appeared without warning on the Marketplace this evening (26th). I for one will be waiting for the Axonos version before making a decision.
This has been years in the making. I’ll keep an eye on it for feedback/reviews but I don’t like the marketplace and simmarket is only marginally better. Hopefully it will appear on contrail.
Very excited about this, hopefully it doesn’t disappoint. Such a gaping hole as far as quality airports.
Photos on the Marketplace listing look great. Unless initial reports are bad regarding performance, I will probably pick it up this weekend.
The one concern for me is the total lack of GSE around the stands (save for a few toggleable default pieces). In the (admittedly very few) images Axonos teased, they’ve custom-modelled at least some GSE.
It also appears Technobrain have done no interior modelling, although that might be a blessing in disguise at such a large hub.
I have to say, given Technobrain’s own Kansai was released in March 2022, this doesn’t appear to represent 4.5 years’ progress. The international terminal in particular seems quite bland and sterile. Maybe it’ll look better with a full complement of BATC-injected traffic but I’m not entirely convinced.
Hopefully Axonos can put a spurt on and deliver their version before winter. I’m getting pretty desperate for a decent RJTT!
No word on an ETA for Axonos RJTT for MSFS yet, am I correct?
Well, I hope Axonos stepped up the game because I own their YPPH and KJAC and they both are quite poor. I already use other developers’ renditions of these airports.
I noticed Technobrain used collision meshes on these parts of the terminal buildings.
Enabling developer camera bypasses the collision meshes-I’m using Chaseplane or the default Showcase Camera.
Though thankfully Technobrain avoided using collision meshes on these terminal interior sections with modelled people:
Have submitted feedback about this and the lack of custom GSE and ground texture quality to Technobrain.
Given the memory load around Tokyo Bay (literally hundreds of thousands of objects in the default scenery) TB probably felt custom GSE was a major performance risk.
Some Japanese freeware developers already provide libraries with excellent low-performance hit GSE that are Japan-native, and I’m sure a mod will be out for RJTT featuring these very soon.
It seems unlikely that a non-Japanese developer can access the proper data sources for RJTT. You would need to a. speak Japanese and b. be in Japan to receive Japanese government documents upon request. Unless they plan to do it without any background imagery…but that’s not going to look great
Heard from Technobrain-the team have noted feedback regarding the lack of ground texture quality and custom GSE for consideration for future updates.
A good, comprehensive video. I’m very familiar with RJTT and some of the detail highlighted here — much of which isn’t visible in the official trailer or marketing images — is spot on. The twinkling lights, for example, on the T2 viewing terrace at night really are a nice touch and show just how deep the dev has gone. Being Japanese is clearly an advantage and Techobrain I imagine will have access to far more data and resources than anyone else tackling this huge airport.
The only showstopper I can see is the lack of custom GSE. Everything else looks top drawer to me.
Yep have to agree, overall very well done.
I’ve seen a comment elsewhere that the layout isn’t current. Can anyone confirm?
Definitely not current as it doesn’t include the new T2 extension.
I find the lack of a T2 extension rather disappointing in a brand-new scenery. That, combined with the lack of ground clutter, is currently putting me off buying it.
I’m still hesitating as well. But I’ll probably get it once it’s on sale because it’s the best version of RJTT available. I’m not holding my breath for Axonos.
RJTT is an airport very close to my heart so it’s frustrating to see an ostensibly well-modelled version suffer a serious flaw like a total lack of GSE clutter. Even default assets would’ve helped!
I too don’t hold out much hope for Axonos’ version but we do 100% know they’re including custom ground clutter. This could end up being the deciding factor as how well an airport is modelled is largely immaterial if it feels like a ghost town. To be fair, Axonos’ does actually appear to be a big improvement over KRIC but we can’t say for sure till it’s in our hands.
It’s such a straightforward but important addition, I’m really surprised Techobrain didn’t bother. As I said earlier, RJTT doesn’t to me look like almost five years of progress over their RJBB.
As I posted before most of the Japanese MSFS creator community knows each other. Karuchie on flightsim.to recently upgraded his library’s highly optimized Japan GSE collection, and I’m sure a mod for RJTT will be coming from someone soon. I have already used it to populate T3, and if nobody releases anything soon, I might just do the whole airport and release that…
My guess is TB probably did not want to include high fidelity GSE because there are already millions of scenery objects loaded into the immediate vicinity of RJTT with photogrammetry on.
Agreed. The Tokyo area is a hard performance hit for most users who fly with photogrammetry enabled - adding 10K more random GSE models at an already large and complex airport would only make performance worse.
EDITED TO ADD: I did buy the scenery last week and like it quite a bit. The animated digital traffic signs around the roadways are a nice touch, and with BATC-injected traffic and GSX GSE around my plane, performance is good and it looks good. It’s also way better than stock so I’m satisfied.
