New Varjo Aero - Consumer VR Device

Did you ever try?

I couldnā€™t understand it either until about a year ago. Then I had a kid.

All of my spare time and money for real flying vanished in an instant, and they wonā€™t be coming back for a very long time. VR in MSFS is the first simming experience Iā€™ve had that offers just enough suspension of disbelief to let me feel like Iā€™m flying for real again. At the end of a long and chaotic day with my lovely toddler, having a rare hour to myself, to blast through the alps and dance with the clouds in 3Dā€¦ thatā€™s an experience that is absolute gold to me now.

Iā€™ve been simming for a long time and 2D and Track-ir have never been able to do that for me, so I certainly donā€™t mind having a silly thing on my head.

Also, one day I realized that Iā€™m sadly not going to live long enough to see a real Star Trek Holodeck come to fruition, so I may as well embrace whatever gets developed along the way to that.

That is awesome news thanks for sharing! I have been very pleased with how Open XR Developer Tools handles the reprojection with this sim and my Reverb G2. If the same or similar is done with the Aero that will be great.

I do every day and have been for the last few years. Absolutely love it.

Do some forum users actually already have this headset in their hands? Iā€™ll hold off on a potential purchase until there is actually a relatively large numbers of users that can post their experiences here.

Iā€™ll hopefully be able to do so after it arrives sometime in February or March next yearā€¦

While I was home schooling teacher for two kids under ten and in lockdown, VR in MSFS and DCS was one of the only things keeping me sane. When school finished it was time for everyone to go on their devices and give each other a bit of space before we headed later in the afternoon for some exercise.

The visual experience is just stunning, at least it is in my Reverb Gen 1. I fly for a living but I love to go back to the PNG highlands and fly into some of the dodgy Kabwum Valley airstrips in the PC6.

The only way this can be done with a good sense of exactly where you are is either in real life or in VR.

Learning to fly the DCS Hornet, Viper and Huey has been awesome too.

It has not been released yet to those that pre-ordered.
Around end of the year app was the stated estimated time.

I have ordered mine but have not heard anything yet from VArjo except initial acknowledgement of order. the email did say 3-4 months! (sheeshā€¦)
This better be worth it. Apart from the narrow FOV of the G2, it works pretty well. But supposedly the Aero is leaps and bounds above anything out there yetā€¦

I had a Rift S, which worked fairly ok, then i sold it for a Quest 2 which i hated, very buggy with the whole link cable thingā€¦(it never worked right, oculus would always reset settings everytime), plus it was not a whole lot better than the Rift S. Then i tried a Pimax 8kX and honestly thought it was a big dissappointment with the very large clunky headset and the FOV was nice, but it just did not feel as immersive. And was a stuttery mess. So settled for my G2 which runs very smoothly and with good FPS and fairly good clarity.

Yeah I am hoping the same here. Though if it gets delayed a little it would not bother me much what with Christmas being next month. For me right now the Reverb G2 along with Open XR Developer Tools for WMR is the ultimate with this sim. Hoping the new Aero spanks it. Main thing I am looking for is better image clarity of not only the cockpit which is already very good with the G2 but looking beyond. That is where I hope it really improves.
Plus I currently use Reverb G2 for flight sims and Index for other VR games, hope to get back to one headset with the Aero.

I canā€™t believe people are still willing to sit hours in front of a flat monitor and pretend that they are flying.

Actually I had long pause until VR woke my passion to sim flying again. I had over ten year when i didnā€™t flew sims except occasionally. Then Rift released and I started to fly with FSX Flyinside VR. XPlane got VR support and I started to fly mucc more enthusiastically.

Now I canā€™t fly sims without VR. VR miss lot compared to real but it have some feeling. Flying with monitor is just using simulated equipments, not flying.

To those that have ordered the Aero, when you ordered it, did you get a ā€œthe transaction requires authenticationā€ onscreen message with no confirmation of purchase at the end of the purchase process?

No I did not get that message, mine went right through and I got a confirmation email pretty quickly.

Thanks.
Ive been on to my cc company, they blamed varjo as varjo apparently dont have the required security check facility that the transaction requires, i imagine they mean like a one time passcode sms to my mobile.
Frustrating, not sure what to do.

Typically with a CC company once you call them and tell them yes you did authorize that transaction they will clear it to where it will go through and you only need to re-submit the order. Course I guess not all CC companies are the same.

If youā€™re based in Europe, then there are at least two e-tailers you may order the headset from - if thatā€™s an option.

Thanks but i tried that (I phoned cc company again 30 mins ago), they said they couldnā€™t pre-authorize :frowning:
