New York Frames!

Hello ,
Last couple of days i realized that when i try to fly around New York the frames are Low !
Either Default Asobo’s or Samscene3D N. York .
I used to get frames between 60-80 , now i barely get 25-30 !

I have tried with both Online Functionality On or Off , still the frames are low .
Anyone else expeiriencing such an issue ?

Hi @TeemingChief,

I’ve moved your post from the Bug Reporting Hub to Install, Performance & Graphics as this is the appropriate category for your topic where users can help you to source your issues. You were reminded 3 days ago about how to use the forums correctly regarding creating Bug Reports, so please ensure that you follow this when posting in the future.

Thanks

Hi @TeemingChief ,

There can be many causes for low framerates, such as your hardware, graphics settings, aircraft in use, add-on mods, etc.

If you search for “Low FPS” on the forums, you will get results such as:

With minimal information about your setup, it is hard to provide advice. :slightly_frowning_face:

“I used to” seems to be a more common phrase around here lately…

I used to get 100 FPS flying my Bonanza over the Sahara Desert.
Yesterday I was getting 70 FPS.

Frametimes and overall smoothness with more demanding aircraft in more demanding locations seems to be better overall, however, so I can’t complain (much.)

I couldn’t live with <40 FPS flying any aircraft anywhere. 30 FPS and lower is unusable to me. Not sure it’s possible in FS2020 to guarantee that anymore unless I’m willing to cripple my graphics options (less Traffic, less TLOD, etc.)

One thing I’ve noticed is that CPU core frequencies are far too low. This sim should push whichever core(s) it uses. Right now it simply doesn’t - at least in my system. It would be interesting to see what others are getting.

Ryzen Master is a good free tool that shows you in realtime what your CPU cores are doing.

Try using the ultimate or high performance power plan. It will reduce the overhead of constantly putting your cores into a low power state such as parking. It will not impact running games on the correct v-cached cores and will not run your cores at constant full speed.

These power plans have no noticeable effect on temps for me.

Once I get my per core offsets dialed in (which I’m in the process of doing as I type this) I plan to do just that (Ultimate.)

I’m also going to test turning off Xbox Game Bar and Windows Game Mode, then using Process Lasso to set affinities. I know the common wisdom is that the Windows Scheduler does a good job, and with my core preference set to ‘Driver’, which uses the chipset drivers, it seems to, as I see the sim running on the Vcache cores only.

But I want to see what happens with Process Lasso.

I did a quick flight over the Sahara (at least on the edge of it) just west of Cairo in the Bonanza to get you some data to compare your new rig against. I have a 7900x3d so a little less powerful cpu and a 7900xtx which would be a little more powerful than your 3090 (click on my gamer pic for full details).

I’m basically running 4k with FSR2 quality mode with HDR-10 on a 120Hz Qled TV with freesync on, frame gen off, no traffic, weather or any other add-ons running (empty community file). From the fps windows you can see that I’m pretty balanced overall but slightly mainthread limited.

Keep in mind I have my PC running very good at this point (knock on wood :face_with_peeking_eye:) with over 8 months of fine tuning. I know you are still tuning but you should probably be in the same ballpark as my numbers eventually.

It’s a journey and I know you are taking your time enjoying it… :joy: :+1:

@WingWarper1

You’ve certainly given me something to aim for…

Is that the stock Asobo Bonanza or the G36 Improvement Project?

I see you’re rendering down to 2K. Is that a 2K monitor, or are you doing that to get better performance?

Stock Asobo Bonanza.

I have a 4k monitor and FSR2 at the quality setting causes it to render at 2560x1440 and then it upscales it back to 4k. Gets a few more fps and also takes a little stress off the gpu but at the cost of a little less sharp. I believe its the equivalent to Nvidias DLSS.

All other sim settings are on ultra except OLOD at 175 and clouds at high.
