I’ve been having a strange problem for a while and finally figured out it is my HFS causing it, wondering if any others have this problem.
If I get up out of my seat or sit back down in my seat, on my HFS seat pad, I often hear a windows sound like something connected or disconnected and my sim hangs visually, I can still hear the sound of the sim while it is hung but the screen is frozen, and often if I wait it may become un hung again 20-30 seconds later, or occasionally it crashes the sim after being hung for some time.
Doesn’t matter if I pause the sim, or put it on autopilot, if I get up for any reason out of my seat, 70-30 chance I will hear the sound and it will hang. Happens both when using VR and in 2D mode.
I updated to the new HFS software today, but it did not change anything,
Yeah, thinking of the cable, as it’s basically connected to the right of yer hip, there will be some strain on it as you are sitting down.
Whilst disconnecting the usb and reconnecting the usb, the sim will freeze, trying to determine the usb id and if it’s a controller to the sim.. So yeah, the chime is from windows disconnecting and reconnecting the usb device… feels like you have a cable issue to the HF8.
Maybe give the cable some more slack where it comes out the side of the hf8?
It must be inside the seat pad where it happens if I sit down or get up. I checked the cable routing and there was not tension or pressure on it from the exit point on the side of the seat pad to the computer. The problem even happens when the power is unplugged, but unplugging the USB has solved the issue except that means I can’t use the seat pad.
It’s a shame, I also have force feedback Brunner yoke and pedals, and at least still feel the vibrations there.
Edit: I can no longer blame the seat pad, but I have a real mystery on my hands. Even with the seat pad completely off and unplugged from the computer, I’m still hearing the connect/disconnect sound when I sit down or get up. I have a Virpil collective mounted to the left side of my chair, and it is the only other wire running underneath the chair, but I’ve checked carefully, it is not pinched or tensioned in any way, and jiggling that wire does not cause the problem, whereas getting in or out of my seat still is doing something. I’m still sitting on the seat pad, maybe will remove it completely, but don’t see how it could be causing it with no power and no usb or audio cable connected to the computer.
Edit 2: I’ve confirmed it was my Virpil collective that somehow connects/disconnects when I sit down or get up. Not sure how or why it does that, no visual reasons that I can see with the way it is mounted. But in any case, just unplugging it when I’m not flying helicopters, and now able to keep using my HF8 with no issues.
No devious kids running around either, as that would actually be the most awsome joke in the world… but yeah, lately i heard a lot of connect and disconnect noises as well… you might want to look at the windows settings screen at Devices and see if there’s one popping out and in whilst you do your thing…
I am having the “unhandled exception” crash pointing to the HF8 software. Did you ever find a solution? Seems like too many addons looking to Simconnect at the same time?
The only “solution” I have found is sticking with the very first version of the software (1.1.2.7).
To be frank, I have not had the enthusiasm to test the newest version (beta, whatever v# it was now) as I don’t really believe they know what it is or how to fix it (and your message kind of proves my point). Or even know who is telling them what in order to look into it. Seems like a vacuum whenever we talk to them.
1.1.2.7 is solid though, and as they have not actually added anything new for MSFS (no new effects) I am happy to sit this out until there is something worth potentially wasting my time and getting frustrated with again
I don’t think so because 1.1.2.7 can handle it fine. It’s something else IMO but no idea.
thanks for sharing the profile. I’ve just tried to import your profile with the latest version (BETA) of the HFS Software, but it does fail. It says, “You’ve selected a wrong settings file for Microsoft FS”. Not sure, if it is a version compatibility problem. Is there any trick to import your profile?
First impression of the HF8 so far: Works perfectly after setting up the hardware and installing the Software (ltatest Beta version). I am using the GotGravel profile, which has been shared in this thread.
It really adds a lot of immersion to the Sim in VR.
Some tips for beginners:
You need the serial number of the pad, which is on the backside of the controller, to download the HFS Software. It might be a good idea to write the serial down, before installing the pad.
My first try of the Software installation brought an error message, even though it said completed. After reinstalling the Software, everything works fine.
The pad requires USB to PC plus a power connection via the included power supply
Don’t forget to turn on the device using the red knob
Follow the startup instructions, as mentioned in the App: First, start a flight in the Sim, then start the HFS Software
None of which I am aware. I’ve changed mine a few times since that upload so I can’t attach another copy. I downloaded the TXT file from my entry above and translated it to these settings if you want to enter them manually:
mine will arrive tomorrow, cant wait happy to have this thread as support lol
has anybody set up the hf8 combined with a buttkicker? would it be worth to have both?
to answer my own question yes it is absolutely worth having both a single buttkicker (gamer plus) strapped to your chair and the hf8 on top I also got myself rkapps simhaptic and its a freaking blast! I have been missing out! In VR its like im dreaming. If I only knew before, I wouldve gotten it years ago! The buttkicker definately adds some more clunkyness to it (Im running it at 30%) which the hf8 alone couldnt really do. Now its perfect combination to me. Really recommended.
I was hesitant about buttkicker as well, avoided buying one. Got mine a month ago, absolutely one of the best things for flying immersion. Highly recommended - works fine bolted around chair post, attachment is great.
Yes it’s really nice for a Piper or Cessna prop but for Commercial aviation it’s just a massage chair at the moment. If they could skip the vibration for those it would have been really nice.
