Hi,
I’d like to raise (again) the issue with night lighting, specifically the exaggerated halo / light sprite effect.
At close range, aircraft lights (strobes, nav, landing) look fine. But as soon as you move slightly away, they switch to an overexposed white dot with a strong halo or “starburst” effect. In some cases it even appears through geometry, which looks completely unrealistic.
This creates several problems:
-
Lights appear far larger than they should
-
Strong bloom/halo effect that looks like a camera artifact rather than human vision
-
“Light popping” due to LOD switching
-
Loss of realism compared to previous versions (MSFS 2020 handled this much better)
This is especially noticeable at night, where the contrast makes the issue impossible to ignore. It breaks immersion completely, particularly when taxiing, flying at low altitude, or observing wing lights from the cockpit.
From what can be gathered through the SDK, this seems related to how the simulator handles light sprites and parameters like minimum projected size at distance. However, there is no user-facing way to control this.
What is frustrating is that this issue has been widely reported by the community, yet it doesn’t seem to be addressed in updates like SU5. It gives the impression that this behavior is either intentional or not considered a priority.
Is there any plan from Asobo to revisit the night lighting system and reduce this exaggerated halo / sprite effect?
Thanks.
