Just asking why?
Arent the msfs20 was supposedly to be supported till 2028? This is bare minimum to have such updates in product still being fully monetized by MICROSOFT.
My understanding of “supported” as a bare minimum is that the servers are operational so you can fly. I don’t think it means constant updates. 2024 is the new thing and especially as it has become ever more popular, it’ll be absorbing most of the development effort. 2020 has had updates since 2024 - I just wouldn’t expect them to be all that regularly. At least comparatively.
2020 is only getting 2 updates this year. Next in September
Stop selling fs20 and then tell me: you are not entitled to any updates. Untill then MS should do its job and support both games equally. TBH I feel like all this pasivness towards fs20 is just another example of planned absolescence… But it’s just me…
That’s nonsense. Thousands of games are being sold and no longer updated.
Not that that applies since FS20 has been getting updates.
It’s definitely not just you! 100%- if you are still able to buy it, give them money, they need to keep up with the fixes. Two updates a year isn’t the end of the world but it should be closer to what 2024 gets since it is still a product being sold.
But you are ignoring the fact that the same developers are still fixing the newer version. They are not Missing In Action and are still doing live streams about the MSFS product. Of course 2024 will be the only option at some point but a promise to a buying customer about support until such-and-such year should be kept. There would be no 2024 if the sales of 2020 had not been successful.
Support does NOT just mean it is still “usable”.
I disagree when it comes to a live server. If it was playable without being online, then support would need to mean something else.
Either way it is getting updates as I pointed out. It’s just lower priority which should have been the assumption from the start.
As I said, thousands of titles are being sold with no support at all. I think MS is doing a better job than most devs in that regard.
Your points are valid. I am one of those, I might add, that never saw the need for yet another MSFS 4 years after 2020 was released. Just fixing and upgrading 2020 would have been fine. It runs and looks fantastic. But, as has been said, Money Talks and MS raked it in with a "new " flightsim in 2024, without really expanding the “flightsim” part.
It wasn’t possible with the engine - or so we were told. 2020 was badly core limited. For people with many cores, 2024 has far better performance I think. I can say with a certainty that for me it’s much better. (AMD 9800)
And 2020 does not look fantastic next to 2024. Some areas are similar and the same, but some are quite a lot better. Especially when it comes to rocky areas. Cliffs etc.
I can’t know this for sure, but I think the money they pulled in with 2024 was probably large, but not as large as you’d think when you consider the constant sales on the market. Plus, people who are using Xbox Live paid nothing extra.
