No Analog Rudder control on controller (xbox excluded)

Brief description of the issue:
Analog functionality of controllers is not working anymore. Where it should be a gradual scale it is now binary.
Tested this problem with a steam controller.

Provide Screenshot(s)/video(s) of the issue encountered:

Please check the video for reference

Detail steps to reproduce the issue encountered:

Make sure running Flight Simulator with the latest sim update 2.

  1. Open the settings and go to your controller.
  2. Go to the sensitivity menu
  3. Slowly press the LT button

You will see when the LT putton is pressed roughly 50% the output is suddenly 100% and there is no in between. In the video I move LS Y with roughly the same speed as LT.

NOTE: This is not a sensitiviy issue!

Affected controllers:

  • Logitech F310
  • Steam Controller

Steps I already took to rule out any problems with the controller:

  1. Loaded default controller profile
  2. Restarted controller
  3. Checked in another game if trigger is not broken (works!)
  4. Restarted game with controler on
  5. Restarted game with controller off and then turning controller on in-game
  6. Reinstalled the game
  7. Tried altering the XInput_Gamepad.xml file

No effect so far.

After the 1.12.13 update, MSFS no longer recognizes the trigger axis on Xbox controller. Now it recognizes the triggers as buttons, making it very difficult to control the rudder that way.

Yeah it’s gone from being half broken to fully broken. Nice!

Same issue here, tried:

Reloading default controller profile
Remap all buttons manually

I was thinking the camera controls were confusing it as an axis or something, but no. RT and LT only show as buttons anywhere, not analog controls.

Edit: Rudder seems to be working for me as expected in flight as an analog axis. Not sure if what I did fixed it. Sorry that’s not much help.

Edit2: And it seems to have fixed the twitchiness bug! I just went back and retraced my steps, loaded a default controller profile and manually assigned RT and LT and it is working perfectly. So basically just fumble around in the settings and see if that fixes the issue for you? Hopefully this helps.

If you find out, do let me know!
Currently reinstalling in the hope it might be just a bad config.

See edit2 on my last post. Didn’t see your reply, sorry about that!

Same problem, it’s hard to control the rudder now

Did you try to reassign the triggers?

Can confirm, rudders are totally broken now. Even using L/R RS as my axis, it’s recognized as 0/1 input and pegged right at all times.

This is using Logitech F310 gamepad, tried with another identical model controller with same result. Tried calibrating in Windows and didn’t help the issue.

I hope Asobo can fix this problem as soon as possible. This mistake has caused me to have no desire to fly now

Only tested briefly while flying but it seemed to move OK and was able to vary deflection without a problem, but it did not recenter itself. There is a command to bind a key to recenter and 5 on the keyboard recenters it. Seemed like somewhat of an improvement to me because before I had to tap it to get small deflection as holding it just caused it to keep moving to full deflection and then snapped back to center so no way to hold a partial deflection. So not perfect but in in my opinion a step in the right direction.

The analog rudder on Xbox One controller works great now!

If it’s not already bound correctly, open settings and bind:

  • LT to “rudder left axis”
  • RT to “rudder right axis”

Can’t speak for any non-Xbox controllers as I have not tested any.

The problem has been solved. It can be solved by selecting the configuration under the Xbox controller as the default

The rudder should return to a neutral position. It doesn’t now. I had to program the center button (5 on keyboard) to be able to fly. This is only a temp solution. Hard to control plane on the ground when steering. This should be fixed asap IMHO.

Yes, I’ve found this is the primary issue around this I believe.

Please don’t falsely claim it is solved. Maybe it is for the xbox controller, but it definitely broke all other controllers as you can see in the discussion above.

As you can see, even with the default profile it is broken.

I am using an Xbox one controller and everything is normal after restoring the default configuration! Perhaps this method is not applicable to other controllers!

Also having this same issue with my Xbox controller. Also noticing that there are two different LT and RT options when I choose a button? They both look identical but are in two different parts of the button list.

Do you happen to know what generation of Xbox One controller it is? I know they have gone through a couple of minor changes over the One’s life cycle.
