Taking advantage of the current sale price, I finally relented and purchased MSFS 2024. One of many factors in this decision is that I had recently stopped using and uninstalled FSLTL in MSFS 2020 because it was no longer connecting to flight data.
I expected MSFS 2024 to have real-world liveries out of the box, especially based on the fact that a KLM-branded airplane is visible in the launch trailer and startup animations.
But on a vanilla and brand-new first-time install, if I start at a gate at EHAM, I’m surrounded by generic airplanes with a blue 737 on the tail.
I know I can probably install the FSLTL models or other add-ons, but I expected real-world liveries to be visible in the default sim. I had the same results at YSSY (Sydney). Am I missing something? This happens regardless of whether I have “Real-Time Online” or “AI Offline (experimental)” Traffic Type options selected.
You have to turn off the MSFS AI traffic. I believe FSLTL has a tutorial for it.
You may have misunderstood my post. Based on the promo videos, I expected MSFS 2024 to have KLM aircraft (and many other real-world liveries, including now Lufthansa) flying around as AI traffic out of the box, without needing a third-party add-on like FSLTL.
The KLM livery you are seeing in the trailer comes with the 787-10 aircraft. Think that comes with one of the premium versions.
To my knowledge, you still need to download AI aircraft liveries from another source if you want a realistic AI experience. I use BATC for traffic injection but believe the MSFS injector will try to use the correct liveries for injection if they are installed.
Fortunately, both the FSLTL and AIG liveries are good and free.
So what about the loading videos? These scenes show multiple United aircraft outside of the player’s aircraft, implying that AI aircraft use real-world liveries out-of-the-box.
This scene from the PS5 trailer also appears to show the same thing, with a variety of real-world liveries visible at the gates.
Or is this only at very specific and limited airports with very specific and limited liveries? Even then, when starting a flight at LAX, the gates and aprons are filled with Iberia planes, which is hardly realistic.
I was hoping for at least some Australian and New Zealand airlines represented in our major airports here, and other similar country-specific airlines in the main hubs for those countries.
But for example the new Lufthansa announcement, does this licensing deal only include using those liveries on user-flyable aircraft? Reading that annoucement a bit more closely, “this collection of liveries offers a unique opportunity to experience a century of flight from the cockpit” sounds like they might only be available for your selected aircraft, like that KLM livery, and will not necessarily appear on AI traffic.
Are the existing built-in liveries for AI traffic just a partially complete feature that will be updated over time as new licensing deals are arranged with more real-world airlines? Or is it a bug of sorts that the current distribution of real-world liveries doesn’t automatically “congregrate” in greater numbers at the major hubs for each represented country? Eg mainly United at KSFO, mainly Delta at KATL, mainly Iberia in Madrid, etc. (Or is it maybe just a matter of what time of day it is at those airports?)
Again, I know I can get many more liveries and more geographically accurate AI traffic distribution from third parties, even for free, but my specs aren’t the greatest, and I don’t have much free space to play with at the moment, so I was hoping to avoid that. I was probably expecting too much in regards to the out-of-the-box AI traffic experience.
