That’s good to hear. I have both versions of the 750, I just prefer the TDS despite its shortcomings with regard to MP traffic, and weather.
I like the TDS GTN if it’s the only gps in the cockpit and I’m not going off piste, but if I’m going into the back country or want to crossfill into a 650 then it’s PMS all the way with default gps functions and the msfs airport database.
I have a couple of questions about the tutorial if I may
p4 - “You can find similar information but in a much deeper technical format in the Britten Norman Pilots Operating Handbook available online” I’ve had a fairly good hunt but all I can find is the manual for the (X-plane) Torquesim BN-2T which is also study level so it seems useful. I do miss my Torquesim planes, TS and Hotstart kept Xplane on my pc for almost as long as A2A kept P3D on there.
p12 - “One point of note is that the (wingtip) Tanks tanks (port and starboard) are usually filled to 100 % regardless of Main tank Quantity and are then transferred to the main tanks during flight.” Do we need to do that or does the plane take care of it ?
P14 - as I mentioned I didn’t have any ground services available so couldn’t call a GPU, but as I also said that could quite possibly be a me problem. I’ll try doing this flight again in a different plane and see what happens with this and the ILS.
p15 - aircraft config panel - “The “MORE” Page will take you to our website where links to full real-world Manuals and other downloads are available” I didn’t have a more page, I had a docs page which just displayed the tutorial in-sim.
P17 - “This will test the pilot’s door interlock and sound a warning to show it is operating correctly. The switch will Auto return to centre.” My switch didn’t auto centre, it just kept squealing until I turned it off or closed the door.
P22 - “check ammeter (2) for normal indication (Charging)” what counts as normal ? Mine was still deep in the red after engine start with the gens on and all the warning lights out, forgot to check it in flight
P25 - “We were given an initial Altitude with a departure on Runway 23R” nope, runway 16
I think everything else worked as expected apart from the plane flying the ILS approach backwards, after crashdown everything was a bit confused while I found a runway exit but the shutdown worked ok (and I was able to call a gpu).
Once again, I like this plane, it hustles !
Yes we are in a quandary there . . we have EXCELLENT Copies of the POH for both BN2T and BN2T-4S, However they are Official copies and copyrighted Britten Norman… We cant publish these “as is” Of course and to create our own manuals with the official and accurate information will take WEEKS if not Months… So this is something we are looking hard at, please bear with us.
You manually fill the Tanks of course But the transfer is automatic in DEFENDER and you have TXFER Switches on the BN2T Overhead. In Both cases the transfer can be stopped via the breakers on the centre console.
Yes this can be awkward at some locations … Sorry
Best to start an engine and get the generator running ASAP in this case .
This is still being worked on and will change once we get manuals Online…
We may even revert to an EFB yet … this is tbd
With apologies, Badly worded… No The switch will only revert on a successful start … You will have to Manually switch it off after testing interlock alarm
Ammeter in the RED = Charging / Normal
Green will show Load … ( Yes confusing … it got me too)
Yes apologies, a Late night Typo … it is indeed RWY 16
The Tutorial will be updated
Hope these Help ?
and Thanks for the positive comments !
Good to know! Personally, I like the synthetic vision, but I understand those that prefer not to have it.
Thanks a lot for the update!
Maybe I’m reading too much into the release-notes but for me, VR-zoom still isn’t working. Let me know if I can assist in any testing.
I can’t seem find the original Poh online, i only found the one from
the torquesim plane and it was lacking some explenation of systems. Seems like a well hidden one.
-Engine limitations, Fadec or not? automatic torque limiter?
-Does the real plane have reverse thrust (Beta)?
-Rpm settings, do you leave rpm full or is there a range for cruise etc?
Maby this info is included? But not in the “tutorial” guide i read.
I’ll wait for this to be available as i like to operate my planes realistically. Or try to at least.
Clears up a few things nicely, thank you
I tried the tutorial flight again in a couple of different planes. Starting from ramp 17 at Cork the Cows DA42 had ground service options for refuel and pushback but no ground power, the FSR500 only had refuel, and v1.02 of the Defender had no ground services. Lack of ground power at Cork seems like just the sim being random.
Back into the DA42 and flew the flight, this time in better weather so I could enjoy the scenery, and everything turned to custard as I approached Shannon. By which I mean everything worked fine and I realised I’m a ■■■■■■■.
Tutorial : “We will be arriving on the KURU2D (STAR) and guided towards an ILS approach on runway 24” “It’s quite a complex STAR as initially puts you on Runway heading without activating the approach. This is because it will fly a Loop back via the SHA Entry point after the first pass.”
The thing that threw me is there’s a loop before you get to Shannon but SHA is well after it - my thick skull (it was 3am here, fatigue is a real thing kids!) decided that was a hold and I had to cross SHA and then look for a loop, which meant overflying the airport and coming back to land on the exact opposite of runway 24. Nah. You’re supposed to turn left at DERAG onto runway heading, go around the loop and come back onto runway heading, then change the CDI to the ILS and bring it home via SHA.
The FSR500 with Raoul’s G1000 did exactly what it was supposed to, all I had to do was press APR to let it capture the glideslope. The Cows DA42 with the Cows G1000 did the turn at DERAG and saw the runway and went straight into approach mode and landed without doing the loop, and v1.02 of the Defender with the PMS GTN did exactly what it should have except go into Vnav Path / capture the glideslope, both of which I worked around, and took me to another classic Blackbox tutorial arrival on runway 24.
So loving this plane, it’s not significantly slower than the FSR and a lot more fun, with the potential for oh so much more to go wrong. Highly recommended.
Hi
For some reason I cant start the engines. I think it because although I switch ground power on in the cockpit I dont actual get ground power. Can any one advise?
Best wishes.
Bob
There can be many reasons
- Ground power switch MUST BE UP
- Generators should be OFF
- Fuel Pumps should be ON
- Engine Covers must be OFF
- Prop Tie downs must be OFF
You don’t say at which stage the start fails, But IF N1 reaching 20% and no start Move Prop levers out of feather / Cutoff position, and ensure Igniters either ON or CONT
Hi Thanks
It may have been the Generators
I normal switch them on with the battery, I just tried it with them both off and it turned over and started.
Thanks for the help.
Best wishes.
Bob
Yes the generators should remain OFF until CWP LO RPM and GEN light goes off for that engine
Hi What are the BUSBAR and how do I get the warning light to go out in the islander. I did not have this in the defender and I cant find any mention in the documents?
Busbar Warning lamp will USUALLY Be on when you switch in the generators too soon… When they don’t have time to “latch”
after engine start you must Always wait for LO RPM and oil lights to go Off before switching generators on.
The Best cure if it happens is to turn Off the generators and then switch them back in.
Hi.
Perfect
Thanks for your help.
I will have to learn to adapt to the generators on this aircraft as I normal switch the generators on with the battery.
So I have now learnt to switch them on only after the engines start and when several lights have gone out.
Thanks again.
best wishes.
Bob
Hi all, does anyone know how to shut the engines down? I’ve tried pulling the Prop/Condition levers down to cut off and they keep running.
Switching off the fuel pumps, the fuel valves, and all electrics doesn’t work either.
Does anyone else have this problem?
prop levers to feather / cut off position should be all you need …
Make sure the lever are coming all the way back, maybe your controller is preventing them passing the Feather Gate…
Try dragging manually with the mouse
I just received the email about 1.0.3 which includes a fix for the VOR2 indicator needles and flags. While I appreciate the continued updates, the course ring on the VOR2 gauge is still slaved to the main HSI, so you can’t adjust the course with the knob.
I have been doing what you suggested, pulling the prop levers back to the cutoff position with the mouse. Even when I kill the fuel pumps and all electrics the engine gauges show a shutdown but the props are still turning and won’t stop.
Is it possible they’re windmilling in a strong headwind? I just checked from the exterior on mine (v1.0.3) and the engines do indeed shut down with feathered props.
Same here… I can even turn the fuel tanks off and she flies further and further… I made my test on the runway with engines started and in the air, no changes at all, even fuel flow won´t change. v1.0.3
