Can you be more specific? I’m not going to watch a 7-hour video to find out what you mean…
The video was tagged to start at a certain time, but I guess it doesn’t work in the forums. 3h 30m mark. It’s about 5 minutes of the interaction the dev had with LondonController.
Ok, thanks. I’ll check that out.
In the British AVGeek video, I got the sense the interiors were weak but the exterior views, buildings, animations, etc. were all pretty good. Personally, I almost never go inside the buildings so I’d be ok if the building interiors were not great.
Still a shame after all this time and can’t imagine it will be cheap. The standard for these airports is now so high that the giant, sprawling airports like KATL, KDAL, CDG, KDEN, KCLT, etc. either don’t get done at all or come with a bunch of sacrifices on quality, time, or price.
I’m always wary when I hear only one side of the story. Hearing the other side might offer further context. I’ve personally communicated with Matteo and he’s been very open to criticism but I have seen him be a bit obtuse with other people.
It’s probably not helping that SU5 seems to have introduced stutters that were non-existent in SU4.
Can’t begin to imagine how much work it must be to get the interiors right on an airport this size. Both from a visual and a performance aspect. KATL is huge.
You’re not wrong, there’ s always 3 sides. Time will tell for sure whether the product has issues or not.
I honestly don’t give two toots in the wind if the interiors aren’t up to what some people want - from what I’ve seen of the exteriors, the modeling, and the especially the ramp textures, this is a big step up from the Gaya hand-crafted version. Day 1 buy for me.
i’d be surprised if it is released before the end of the May.
I’m a bit surprised to see the team is still moving forward with the release. I’m also surprised to see at least one person on the orbx team making claims of no stutters and posting a video, only for it to be painfully obvious there are in fact stutters in their video.
Too much drama, in my opinion. I have these stutters sometimes with other airports as well. It depends on what I fly etc. I’m looking forward to this release, it looks fantastic.
Drama or discussion? Nothing wrong with users pointing things out. Ultimately everyone wants to make a good decision with their money… Even if that means waiting for reviews and not making it a minute 1 purchase.
Well, I personally won’t dive into the negativism surrounding this and I’ll wait for the final release to judge. Then It’s each to his own. But from what I’ve seen already it looks like a day one purchase.
We all appreciate you avoiding “negativism”, since everyone seems pretty content with this discussion. Overall, I’d say everyone has been professional and courteous to each other. I think it’s awesome you are buying it day 1 and we look forward to your honest feedback!
The rest of us will continue the discussion. Thanks!
I think you meant KDFW and not KDAL.
As I said earlier, many of us are seeing stutters in SU5 that weren’t an issue in SU4, so we need to be sure it’s the KATL scenery specifically causing them, rather than a problem in SU5. A detailed airport the size of KATL is going to really highlight any performance issues SU5 might have introduced.
Regardless of how Matteo interacts with the community, he’s a renowned, respected dev so any teething problems I expect will be addressed fairly soon after release.
Could it release today? Maybe.
It looks amazing.
Well done.
KATL has now appeared on Orbx’s 'Coming Soon’ page. What’s particularly interesting is the note on the page stating that the airport must be activated using a key. That’s not a problem for me, and I can understand why it’s done to prevent piracy. What I don’t like, however, is that you always have to run a DRM program alongside the simulator if you want to use KATL. Yet another background process. And just imagine if every add-on provider were to do the same. Then, at some point, we’d have to run a whole host of tools just to check whether we’d actually purchased the add-ons legitimately.
But in my opinion, the airport certainly looks fantastic.
