Nvidia 4090 CTD after January 2025 Driver Update

msfs-2020 I have developed a love and hate relationship with this game. I get my settings perfect and then I do something stupid like update my video driver. Then I sit down with the free time I have and I spend all of it trying to make the video game run again. After four years and the release on 2024 I’m almost done with having to do so much to make something work.

So I updated to the latest NVIDIA driver in the screenshot below and I get CTD on load every time. What I did find that fixed it temporarily was this.

I went and downloaded an old driver from October form NVidia’s website and installed it. Then I went into the NVIDIA app and let the app choose the best settings for me. I launched the game (fingers crossed) and it loaded to the menu screen. Now I have to change all the settings and tweak them so I can fix the screen tearing ( that has stated again) but I don’t want to use DLSS anything. Come to find out for some reason now my PC wont let me use ANYTHING other then the recommended settings and DLSS super resolution.

In short even with an amazing system this update is not what you want don’t install it.

DX11 or DX12? Apparently I read somewhere that a few users were having issues with CTD’s and DX11. There is also a hotfix 572.24 available, might be worth searching out and trying that.

It’s the Nvidia app. Uninstall it and all will be fine.

I use the Nvidia App with the latest drivers and don’t have any problems.

With latest Nvidia, Nvidia app and DX12 selected in MSFS 2020 a CTD won’t occur.
However, with DX11 selected in MSFS 2020, using the same latest Nvidia driver and Nvidia app, a CTD will occur.

I’ve seen you say this in a few places and that’s simply not true for everyone. Several system crashes for me under DX12. Those 572 drivers are complete garbagio right now and need some serious work. Back on 566.34 and smooth sailing.

I’m not sure if you noticed, but this topic is about an issue where OP was struggling with a CTD specifically during game loading. So, it’s not the typical CTD.

CTDs, system crashes, game crashes, etc. The internet is ridden with issues for these drivers. And many using MSFS 2020 and DX12 with these drivers are having crashes of all sorts, so your statement is simply not true.

I would like to remind you once again that you are in a topic related to CTD during the loading of MSFS 2020 while using DirectX 11.

Nothing new for us - I already mentioned some time ago that the latest driver is one of the worst. You can share your opinion about this driver in the dedicated topic.

This solved my problem launching the game, selected dx12 from the Nvidia app and then game launched. Unfortunately I already did a reinstall for nothing until I found this solution.

You absolute legend. For some reason my graphics settings were changed and I couldn’t start MSFS 2020 this morning. Spent half my day troubleshooting until I came across your post.

Can finally fly my planned 737 flight tonight.

I know everyone is talking about 2020 but does anyone have this issue with 2024?

Updated graphics driver in January and since I get a CTD within seconds of loading into the main menu. DX12, RTX 4090.

However, 2020 runs perfectly fine no matter what graphics driver.

Would it be worth me rolling back to a driver from December??

Appreciate any advice… I’m at a lost at this point.

Hello CraderBug,

Yes. I installed 2024 yesterday and cannot get past the screen where it spawns your aircraft at a gate. RTX 4090 with 572.60 driver. I uninstalled the Nvidia app as suggested above and that made things a little better. Before that the game would not even get past the load screen. All addons have been removed and community folder is empty.

Don’t know what to make of this.

Thanks.

I rolled back to the 566.36 driver no different. Out of desperation I am going to uninstall/reinstall.

After trying for hours, that fixed it for me too. Thank you!

This eventually solved my problem. In spite of the error about NVIDIA drivers it was CPU related.
