Team Green is on quite the run of driver releases lately :grinning:

It’s a hot fix driver for 50 series cards. They even say this is beta and not an official driver release, and recommend to not update to it and wait for an official driver as a safety precaution.

“To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out. As a result, we only provide NVIDIA Hotfix drivers through our NVIDIA Customer Care support site.”

In the first post of this thread, the main fixes.

This is official Hotfix version.

In the past (long, long, long time ago) Nvidia offered drivers in WHQL (certified by Microsoft) and Beta versions (early releases for users who wanted to test the latest changes). At some point, Nvidia replaced the Beta label with Hotfix drivers, which are essentially quick fixes for specific issues before they are integrated into WHQL drivers.

Young users, those who have switched from consoles to PC or those who moved from AMD to Nvidia may not be aware of this. This is something the “dinosaurs” know well and they have no fear of installing Hotfix drivers.

So Hotfix drivers are officially released by Nvidia as temporary solutions for users experiencing particular problems.

No one is forced to install Hotfix drivers – it is entirely the user’s choice.

In some of my posts, I mentioned that, in my opinion, the last stable Nvidia drivers were 566.14 – but I’ve changed my mind! I’ve finished testing version 572.75 Hotfix and I’m pleasantly surprised.
I haven’t seen MSFS 2020 run this smoothly in a long time.

I uninstalled the previous Nvidia driver using DDU in Windows Safe Mode.

During Nvidia driver installation, I selected only the driver, PhysX and clean installation – I did not install Nvidia app and Nvidia HD Audio.

I tested it on Ultra settings, 2K, TAA, Vsync - off, LOD 200/200 – using the FBW A32NX (dev version).

Windows 10 Pro 22H2 – HAGS: ON, Game Mode: ON, Ultimate Performance power plan.

Feel free to share your feedback.

I don’t see this driver available in nVidia experience?

Currently, on the NVIDIA driver download pages users can choose between Game Ready or Studio versions. In the past, there was also an advanced option, where users could download the Beta version - now named Hotfix.

However, Hotfix drivers are not available through GeForce Experience or Nvidia app. They can only be downloaded directly from Nvidia support website.

Thank you!

I presume at some point the “hotfix” driver will be rolled out as a production driver?

Good to know

Yep, of course with additional fixes included.

Edit
You have an RTX 5080 GPU so this hotfix is also intended for your GPU.

Gonna check it out!

May remove nVidia experience and revert to manually downloading these GPU drivers

Yeah, you really don’t need to do the DDU clean install every time you install new display drivers. Only need to do that if you are having problems.

Q: What is DDU?

Answer

Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) is a driver removal tool that can help you completely remove AMD (ATI), NVIDIA and Intel graphics drivers, Realtek audio driver from your system, without leaving leftovers behind (such as registry keys, folders, files, driver store).

Over time these leftover files can cause compatibility issues, such as drivers failing to install, reducing performance or system crashes/freezes. By using DDU you can remove these leftovers and solve many common issues related with GPU drivers.

Let’s stay on topic - this discussion isn’t about DDU, so there’s no need to reply.

-DDU should be used when having a problem uninstalling / installing a driver or when switching GPU brand.
-DDU should not be used every time you install a new driver unless you know what you are doing.

The above was posted by Wagnard in the NVIDIA Forum.

I never used DDU since at least 5 years. I also use the NVIDIA app and have zero issues with it. Unless I have an issue which is mentioned as fixed in the release notes, I stay away from hotfix drivers and only install standard release drivers. Currently using 572.70 with a 4090 and FS2024 runs perfectly smooth with good performance.

I already mentioned that this topic is not about DDU. How I uninstall and install my drivers is my business, and I assure you, I don’t need to be told or taught how to do it.

You’re not the only player mate
Nvidia app causes CTD if DX11 is selected in MSFS 2020.

I know what is DDU. I use it when there is a problem caused by new graphics drivers. However I was just mentioning that there really is no need to use it every time folks install a new version of their graphics drivers in case they thought it was a manditory step of the installation.

In this topic about the Nvidia driver, I never mentioned that DDU is mandatory, so if you or anyone else thought that, it means you don’t know how to read with comprehension.
I only mentioned how I uninstalled Nvidia driver. To conclude, I will add information from the DDU website and I consider the DDU discussion closed.

That’s the way I do it. If there’s a problem, I use DDU, but if not, I just overwrite the driver.

And if a REAL moderator wants to remove my post becuse it doesn’t comply with the apparent requirement of being specifically regarding this new driver, then feel free to do so.

Thanks, that’s why I had CTD after enabling the nVidia overlay. I’ll change to DX12 and check.

You’re very welcome.

The overlay causes a CTD if DX11 is selected in FS2020. Nvidia app with overlay set to off is totally fine.
