OCD ? Content Manager

I was delighted to see that the new USA Update, had appropriate Thumbnails in the Content Manager.

This is GREAT !!! Now one can clearly see which Content is associated with this USA Update.

It has always disappointed me, that for the longest time, only Carenado was making use of this Thumbnail feature.

Now ASOBO has finally started to use it as well.

It would have been nice is if the Tokyo Update, had it’s own unique Thumbnail, as well as Standard, Deluxe and Premium content.
(maybe Asobo will consider adding those Thumbnails to past content …?)

In any case, certainly MODDERS can add their own unique Thumbnails to their Community Products. SO far, I think I have only seen one Addon Scenery developer, use a Thumbnail,

So, being the OCD Techie Engineer that I am, I decided to add a few Thumbnails to some of the Community item I have .

( Note: They will only survive as long as I do not update the packaged, unless I go in and re-add them back in - or highly automate the process of adding them back in from an update list, and updating the layout.json )

Does it matter ? It it needed ? Of Course not – but it is cool to be able to Customize one’s “Content Manager Experience”.

Maybe a few Screen Shots will inspire some of the Modders to add their own Identifying Thumbnail to their products, going forward.

Good stuff. I’m also dying for some basic filters beyond the search, like being able to filter things that need an update.

The icons are definitely nice to have. I’m surprised more modders aren’t using that feature.

However, the content manager is a complete mess. I really wish you could filter or sort the views beyond doing a search. If you have a bunch of mods and liveries, it makes for a long, convoluted list to search through when looking for something.

I have got over the “Download everything because it is FREE” mentality. so just like the Community folder, I only put there, what I might want to us in the short term.

I loved the PMDG study aircraft in FSX, and really got into it, and learning all the procedures etc… but to date, I have not even downloaded any of the MSFS Airliners, let alone opened them up to run them.

More than enough to do, just sorting out the small GA planes, and making sure that they run in the sim, and the sim runs them, before loading the bigger Porpoises !@!

Just having a blast, flying what I fly in RL, and for the 1st time, in MSFS, being able to look outside and recognize where I am… and seeing if I am still up to a little VOR / NDB navigation, without the GPS … Much more satisfying to FLY plane, than to just program it !!!
