Oculus Link flickering with MSFS

When I use VR on my Quest 3 using the Quest Link cable I pretty much always get a horrible flicker where a it’s like a double image appears behind the normal image whenever I turn my head. I only have this issue in MSFS, all other games that I play in VR are completely normal. This “flickering” also only appears in the HMD screens, the VR image mirror on my 2d monitor is fine.

I have tried using SteamVR and oculus VR and turning ASW on and off but the problem remained. I also have this issue in the menus and if I completely turn down the settings so it shouldn’t be a performance issue.

Has anyone ever encountered this issue?

My specs:

i7-10700k

RTX4070

I have the same issue. No solutions found…

Like everything PCVR, your setup/settings are everything. Often it’s hard to to pinpoint issues since the combination of things besides msfs settings like nvidia CP, Win11, and meta-link pc app can have a pretty big effect.

The only time I’ve noticed flickering in the past I found that things that helped included; disabling HAGS and using DDU in safe mode before installing newer nvidia drivers, currently using 522.44, (including not installing geoforce experience), together with checking out your Link cable connection (meta-link app device/usb speed test = 2.2Gbps or better).

That is, you need a holistic approach, rather than relying on a simple on-step fix imho. Up to you but I suggest you have a look at my current Q3/QPro Link settings and give all (not just some) of these a go. Good luck mate and cheers.

Tried DX12?

Why? Maybe a good reason? Unfortunately I’ve found that dx12 causes me instability issues with long flights (+1hr). So, back to non-experimental dx11 for now.

I had a similar issue at one point. Someone had said that there was a bug in the implementation of OpenXR that is used by SteamVR and Oculus that has not been fixed. I solved the problem by going wireless with Virtual Desktop and using their implementation of OpenXR (VDXR) No more flickering, I was able to crank up the settings by a huge amount and I have smooth gameplay.

Ya, VD with VDXR is always a good wireless PCVR option. I still get great results with Air Link and Oculus OpenXR runtime. No significant differences with any wireless options with the right setup/settings imho. Purely a personal preference thing, for me anyway.

Like everything VR, if you find something works very well for you, just stick with it.

With Link DX11 gave me flickering…

Always interesting to see some get different results with dx11 and dx12 using Link, Air Link, or VD. Like everything VR, stick with what works best for you imho.

Have not had this issue.

Are you using the official link cable? OpenXR runtime in the Meta windows app, in settings → general set as default? When you ctrl+tab to start vr in MSFS, steamvr definitely is not also running right? dx11 used in msfs?
