[OFFICIAL] Community Fly-in Event: Scottish Highlands

(Photo from forum user @zkdos)

We will be hosting an Official Fly-in alongside a group of community members (you!) on Twitch. This is an open event, free to all who would like to fly along with us and available for all skill levels. The goal is to have a great time, explore new locations of the world, and make new friends. This event is open to pilots on both the PC and Xbox platforms.

Hosted by @SeedyL3205, @Angernerve, @IngoPlane, and @Pieter1982NL.

When: Friday, August 13 @ 1900Z for two hours.
Where: The Official Twitch Channel of MSFS

There will also be a Discord event channel open for those who want to voice chat with other members of the community.

Please see below for details on the upcoming Fly-In Event:

FLIGHT DETAILS

Flight plan: Edinburgh (EGPH) → The Kelpies → Falkirk Wheel (freeware addon, see below) → Stirling Castle → Loch Shiel → Glenfinnan Viaduct → Loch Eil → Loch Lochy → Fort Augustus Airstrip (EGVZ, Touch & Go) → Inverness (EGPE)

Pilots on the PC platform can download the .pln file for this flight here:
Community Fly-In 2021-08-13 Scottish Highlands.PLN (3.7 KB)

For Xbox pilots, I will spend the first few minutes of the stream quickly explaining how you can create your own flight plan using the World Map. Alternatively, you can simply fly along with the group without using a pre-defined flight plan.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: Cessna 172, Cub Crafter X Cub, JMB VL-3, or similar

We will be starting at EGPH. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the taxiway or parking.

Freeware Addon

Players on PC can optionally choose to install a freeware mod for the Falkirk Wheel Boat Lift, a visually-striking landmark we will cross during our flight. Use of this mod is encouraged but not required to enjoy this event.

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

Variable Setting
Server North Europe
Multiplayer All Players
Live traffic As preferred
Weather Overcast
Time of Day Day time

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

COMMUNICATION

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

LET’S FLY

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter the amount of experience.

Looks like a great event! Unfortunately I’m on off on holiday for the next two weeks so won’t be able to join you, have fun!

@SeedyL3205 last time I had an issue with the provided flight plan since MSFS added the artificial waypoints (TIMECLIMB and the other one).
For not having people running into the issue, I’d suggest to create the flight plan as IFR even though it’s wrong. With that, MSFS doesn’t add the fake waypoints.

so happy to see my Falkirk wheel mod featured
I’m glad you like it.

Too bad I can never catch one of these since I have a 9-5 job during week days. Have fun though. The highlands are wonderful!

Using the provided flight plan in the analog Cessna 172 should the magenta line be displayed on the VFR Map so we know where to fly because I am not seeing it.

Using the Cessna 172 with G1000, the flight plan doesn’t show on the VFR map either for me but it does seem to show on the GPS and on the G1000 flight plan.

Seedy Sir… do you think the PMDG DC6 would be socially acceptable on today’s flight?

Cheers

@N696RF

You can fly whatever plane you enjoy the most, but you may find yourself going too fast for the rest of the group in the DC-6. Also, none of our streamers today own the DC-6, so it won’t display properly for the viewers if you are flying it.

Thanks for the quick comeback… I will have to fight that urge to fly something maybe more easily managable… LOL

Well, my first fly in and great fun, thanks for arranging

Perhaps this livery isn’t the most fitting for an event like this.
