Please see below for details on the upcoming Fly-In Event:

FLIGHT DETAILS

Community members Alyson Johnson and Capt. Arash are currently re-creating Amelia Earhart’s and Fred Noonan’s famous around-the-world flight attempt from 1937 in Microsoft Flight Simulator. In their collaboration, Alyson is playing the role of Earhart and piloting the plane while Arash is playing the role of Noonan and serving as the flight’s navigator, including using celestial navigation! They will be joining us on Friday to share more information about this famous flight as we visit several locations in California of historical significance to Amelia Earhart.

Pilots on PC can download the .pln file here:
Community Fly-In Friday 2022-01-14 California and Mexico.pln (2.5 KB)

We will be starting at KBUR. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: if you own the payware Lockheed Electra from 3rd Party Developer Aeroplane Heaven, that will be the preferred plane for this flight as it was the model used historically by Earhart and Noonan. For non-payware options, you can fly any plane of your choice with a cruise speed of approximately ~150 knots. Suitable options include the Cirrus SR22, Beechcraft Bonanza, Beechcraft Baron, Diamond DA62, Cessna Caravan, or similar.

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

Variable Setting
Server North Europe
Multiplayer All Players
Live traffic As preferred
Weather Few Clouds
Time of Day Daytime

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

COMMUNICATION

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

LET’S FLY

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter the amount of experience.

Thanks to the MSFS team for organizing the event, and thanks everyone for joining in. It was such a pleasure to be part of this flight.
