[Official] Community Fly-In Friday: Botswana

We will be hosting an Official Fly-in alongside a group of community members (you!) on Twitch. This is an open event, free to all who would like to fly along with us and available to pilots of all skill levels. The goal is to have a great time, explore new locations of the world, and make new friends. This event is open to pilots on both sim versions (MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024) and both the PC and Xbox platforms.

FLIGHT DETAILS

We’re making our return to Africa this week with a flight over scenic Botswana! Our exploration of the region will include a tour of the famous Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the second-largest wildlife reserve in the world and a popular tourist destination.

MSFS (2020) and MSFS 2024 Pilots on PC can download the .pln file here:

MSFS 2024 Pilots on both PC and Xbox can import the flight plan from the new Flight Planner tool at this link.

You can find instructions on how to load a flight plan from the Flight Planner website to your in-sim EFB on your PC or Xbox console on our forums here.

We will be starting at FBKG. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: Beechcraft Baron, Beechcraft Bonanza, Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, Cessna C400 Corvalis TT, Cirrus SR22T, Diamond DA62, or any plane of your choice with a cruise speed of ~170 knots.

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

COMMUNICATION

I look forward to this flight, but I’m secretly disappointed that the location wasn’t Easter Island given it is this weekend. Yes I’m aware that not everyone celebrates Easter and all that but sometimes it’s not about being PC but it’s about the cool factor of checking out the Moai

That would be a funny choice indeed. Unfortunately the island isn’t that big you can fly for 2 hours.

The airport Mataveri [SCIP] is a handcrafted (WU#13) and worth a visit upcoming days.
Or is… flywithjoe “post deleted by author” going for this saturday?

I have visit the island with FS2020 during my “Fly around the world” tour using a Beech Bonanza Shot a image standing in front of the hangar with the islands “logo” on it. Since then its still my fav screenshot for windows login page.

For those using Navigraph Charts you want KGV DCT FBOR DCT FBMN. FBKG/Kang aerodrome is not a recognised airport, but the KGV KANG VOR is available.

It’s always great to experience new parts of the world but the scenery on this flight was far from inspiring. Surely there are other parts of Africa more deserving of a fly-in?
That said, the community make these events and as per usual you were fantastic

Thanks. I can’t get the AP following the FP (PC12 SWS on MSFS202). Thought I’d have to set it to NAV…
