FLIGHT DETAILS

This week is EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, the world’s largest fly-in and gathering of aviation enthusiasts! In celebration of this event, our Community Fly-In this week will be a cross country trip from Meigs Field to KOSH.

Our flight plan will be of a slightly shorter duration than normal this week so we can take in the sights of Oshkosh and enjoy watching sim pilots land at what is temporarily the world’s busiest airport.

For players on PC, there are two different optional add-ons for Oshkosh. Neither of these are necessary to enjoy this week’s Fly-In, but you may wish to download one of these mods to enhance the experience by adding the famous colored dots on the runway and other scenery modifications.

  • This freeware add-on from flightsim.to. Please note that there are additional dependency downloads at the link that you must also install for this mod to work correctly.
  • If you are a paid subscriber to PilotEdge, they also offer an Oshkosh mod for members as part of their SimVenture event.

Pilots on PC can download the .pln file below:
2023-07-28 Oshkosh.PLN (2.6 KB)

We will be starting at KCGX. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: in the spirit of the EAA, we are encouraging everyone to fly to Oshkosh in unique and interesting planes – vintage aircraft, classic warbirds, experimental homebuilts, you name it! Anything of your choice that can maintain a cruise speed of 110-120 knots is sufficient for this flight. Let’s hope for a very large assortment of different aircraft types!

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

Variable Setting
Server SE Asia
Multiplayer All Players
Live traffic As preferred
Weather Few Clouds
Time of Day Daytime

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

COMMUNICATION

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

LET’S FLY

This is meant to be a fun and informal flight. Everybody is welcome, no matter the amount of experience.

Exactly what I was waiting and hoping for, butwill there be anything happening once at oshkosh like last year and the year before when there were airshows etc. ?

Hello @patrickb1973,

Our Oshkosh flight from 2022 didn’t include an airshow or anything like that, and we didn’t host an official Oshkosh event in 2021. Are you perhaps confusing the Official Community Fly-In with other Oshkosh-related events independently organized by players from the community?

Thanks,
MSFS Team

Strange, I could swear there was an official event with an airshow and everything before either last year or 2021 so no idea must have been a big community organized one then, I think that was in 2021 because in 2020 we also had one when the sim was still in beta but that was a small one. 2021 was a big one.

btw. For those on Xbox it would be very helpfull if you guys would list not only the starting airport bht also the waypoints so they recreate the flight plan.

Hi @patrickb1973,

All the waypoints are clearly visible in the World Map image of the flight plan, and it should be very easy for Xbox players to re-create this flight plan on their consoles.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I will be doing a single Man acrobatics show that day near osh, you might see me doing stunts in either a Cessna 172 or a 737-8

I think I will also be flying a Cessna 172 since my good friend Josh from Aviation101 flown his into Osh again for real. Hope to be there again in real life at some point the coming years.

Not having us all do the Fisk Arrival, I see?

That would be fun though, Rock your wings

Can anyone tell me if the Pilotedge version is dramatically better than the flightsim.to version?

I’ll be flying the Ford F150 Raptor

The free planes that come with the game don’t give many options for those qualifications but I managed to find one of the older planes that fit that cruise speed, did my solo flight

I should be able to attend this one! Think I will bring the DoubleEnder!

Gunna miss this one… Camping weekend…. Enjoy the adventure all!

I typically can’t do these events, so I just go do the Fisk arrival on my own time. Lol

And what song will you be playing on guitar this week @SeedyL3205?

Here’s a little help:
The landmark that we pass by is the Yerkes Observatory.

That was fun, and very fitting to fly to Oshkosh! Community flight but in real life :stuck_out_tongue:
