[Official] Community Fly-In Friday: National Aviation Day

We will be hosting an Official Fly-in alongside a group of community members (you!) on Twitch. This is an open event, free to all who would like to fly along with us and available to pilots of all skill levels. The goal is to have a great time, explore new locations of the world, and make new friends. This event is open to pilots on both the PC and Xbox platforms.

FLIGHT DETAILS

By decree of President Franklin Roosevelt in 1939, August 19 of each year is observed in the United States as National Aviation Day. This date was selected because it is the birthday of Orville Wright. To celebrate National Aviation Day, our Community Fly-In Friday this week will the group journey to Orville’s birthplace in Dayton, Ohio. Dayton also has other strong links to aviation: it is the home of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the National Museum of the United States Air Force, the largest military aviation museum in the world.

We will be starting at KFTK. Please load your aircraft 10 minutes prior to take off and taxi over to the runway in preparation for departure.

AIRCRAFT

Recommended aircraft: CubCrafters X or NX Cub, Cessna 172, Pipistrel Virus, Flight Design CTSL, Pilatus PC-6 Porter, or any other plane of your choice with a cruise speed of about 120 knots

MULTIPLAYER SETTINGS

Please adhere to the following settings so you can see everyone / be seen by everyone.

Weather	Few Clouds
Time of Day	Daytime

It is advised in this flight to turn off both aircraft collisions and terrain collisions. If you do crash, you can use “slew” mode to join the pack. If the pack will be too scattered before the first stop, we will use slew on a defined point to regroup.

COMMUNICATION

To communicate with others, a voice channel on the "Official Microsoft Flight Simulator Discord” at https://discord.gg/msfs will be available to join.

Hello @GloomyLake935,

Yes, this event is open to all players on all platforms (PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Cloud Gaming). If you are on the SU10 beta build, you will not be able to see other players on the SU9 live build (and vice versa), but these fly-ins typically have many people on both builds, so you’ll still see lots of other planes.

To join the flight, all you need to do is spawn at KFTK on the SE Asia server at 1900Z. Also, we suggest you watch the livestream on Twitch so you can listen to the commentary from our hosts.

Yes, please set your server to SE Asia or else you won’t see all the other participants in the group flight.

I already know which plane I’ll use: the new Beechcraft Bonanza V35

Latency doesn’t have a huge effect for something like this. I don’t think it was ever categorically stated, but all you are changing is the MP server, not content serves so your scenery will likely still be streamed from your usual source.

That said I don’t know why SE Asia is chosen by many MSFS streamers.

Anyone else going to be flying the new Bonanza?

Morning Seedy, got in a little late. Didn’t see any gamer tags that I reconsidered, like yours. I under stand tha t I could have joined anywhere not necessaryly Fort Knox!
